In this example, we have two compressive forces acting on a structural system. We want to determine the magnitude and direction of the resultant of both of these forces assuming that each force's line of action passes through a central point, P, at the base.

We'll use the Law of Cosines to determine the magnitude of the resultant force and then some additional trigonometry to solve for the orientation of the resultant force.
