The 3rd Eye is a Trap

So often, when we begin to get deep in meditation, and so see the spiritual eye, then we immediately try to grasp it, which causes it's anhelation. What a paradox!

Thank you to Doug Gemmell for the amazing music!

Dearest guruji! Thank you so very much for reminding us that the mystery of reaching the infinite is not running fast for it but rather stopping.

This is exactly why YouTube has been like a path of synchronicities for me. Thank you forrest, I've been having trouble with this exact thing for about a month straight. It just keeps catching my attention in one way or another I can't pass it too long. I'm going to go ahead and watch and take the advice but I found it funny I was basically just thinking of this today and here's this video!

To many people want fire works instead of truth of themselves. Wishing nothing but good for you.

What you said about the left brain grabbing at it and causing us to tighten up is spot on!

When I first started meditating regularly I started experiencing a consistent pressure in my head and about three years ago I had an experience of the first knot releasing. The pressure I had been feeling started to expand and felt almost like a halo. It built up to an experience of intense bliss.

Since this experience, when I meditate, I often feel the pressure intensifying and it feels like my brain is contracting. I haven't been able to get it to dilate, even with hakalau.

Observing without a point of view on the object is a good way.

Thank you so much for your insights! This is exactly what I have been experiencing during my meditations for the past year. Now, you have provided a way to get out of the trap. Thank you. As I understand, expansion is the key to enter samadhi!

Real success in meditation comes through developing the capacity to make the flow of concentration steady and uninterrupted. Then that becomes meditation (dhyana) and when the sense of self gets absorbed or drowns in pure consciousness thats samadhi. The only 'trap' is when people think theres a shortcut to the necessity for practice, which in reality is required to develop the capacity to focus and steadily go deeper.
"When the yogi concentrates long enough with half-open eyes at the point between the eyebrows, and when the gaze is without any restless motion, he will be able to see a steady light surrounded by other, but flickering, lights. He should not be diverted by this glimmering halo of the spiritual eye, but should steadfastly look at the center of the eye until he feels his mind completely absorbed within it. In time, he will see the perfect formation of the spiritual eye: a dark opal-blue globe within a quivering ring of flame. Gradually, by deep concentration, an extremely brilliant white star occasionally glimmers in the center of the blue. The star is the gateway through which the consciousness must pass to attain oneness with Spirit. It requires time and calm practice to steady the light of the intuitive astral eye. It takes deeper and longer practice to see the star. It requires greater realization to hold the perception of the star. And it takes mastery in meditation to march the consciousness, valiantly triumphant, through the starry gate of light." ~ Paramahansa Yogananda
Lahiri Mahasaya on the first verse of Yogasutra:
"Now, he [Bhagavan Patanjali] is speaking about that which is known as 'yoga.' Stilling the intellect and keeping mind transfixed in the Bindu, the stoppage that comes about from continuously gazing on the one Star is called 'samadhi.' When that [samadhi] is subject to analysis and understanding, it is called 'samprajnata' and if it is beyond understanding, it is called 'asamprajnata.'"

So the key is to get pulled through the cave and not push oneself through it

Exactly, we grasp onto the experience, to which we do not allow further expansion. It is like thinking of the experience we witness, the thinking of a certain experience is the fault. In the beginning I had immense experiences, fainting, rushes of warmth, shakings ect. later on I somehow developed a wrong doing of having anxiety from the rushing of experiences, this was a thought that did not allow me to keep expericing and going beyond those experiences.

You're a genius! dear friend for figuring this out and sharing... I find its similar when playing the piano or writing a song... pressure arrives to play "good" or impress people, I think you've found a nice strategy to get out of the spiral

Thank you, Forrest! The sirens' song is very attractive, indeed! And now, back to expansion!

Thank you for your explanation. Being new to this concept of consciousness can be overwhelming, especially with so many opinions out there. 💜

Dearest guide, thanks once again. One more cob-web removed. With "piercing" I too was trapped there, despite having been told to "move on".

Do Be Do Be! Thank you! "Predatorial" is a great description! I really laughed at how that described the "I'm going to capture the third eye" trap!

This was sooo helpful! I’ve been meaning to ask you about how the spiritual eye manifests. I have been seeing this sort of amorphous glowing kind of blob about the time I reach my heart chakra with Om Japa. It sometimes has a dark interior and sometimes not. Sometimes it glows more brightly in the center. Kind of like when you look at a light bulb for a second too long and shut your eyes - only not as intense. I have always wondered if I was seeing the spiritual eye or just phosphenes. Thank you!!!
