Having the political structure whereby:- “We don’t vote for leaders, but we vote for political parties in this country”, implies leaders are interchangeable and make no difference to the direction of politics.

If that is the case, then it would make no difference if we still had Boris Johnson or Liz Truss as PM.

I’d propose… Every time a party changes leader, during their term in office, the leader should be referred to as an IPM (Interim Prime Minister) have none of the automatic benefits and lifetime trappings of becoming a legitimate ‘voted for’ PM… and there should be a general election within 6 months, to legitimise their premiership.

We need to update the election laws to either force a general election when a prime minister resigns or set up a fixed line of succession to be carried out before the next one. We've had 14 years of incompetence and half of those are exactly because we let an elite minority choose our PM when one resigns.
