CS6 really should have been called CSAlternate5 because of everything it left out that it had from previous versions, including the ability to select large groups of objects with one hotkey. Today, I show you how to get around this lack of functionality. You're welcome.

Found a easier way while coming across your video, Figured I'd come back and share.

Select one of the white shapes, Go to 'Select' menu, select 'Same' and (since u looking for shapes that are white select) 'Fill Color' Boom! all the white shapes are selected and you save 10mins of your life. Happy Workflow

Hey, just wanted to add to this as a work around that I use that is even faster for getting rid of the "white" residue after auto-tracing: Select one of the white pieces, go to the top menu –> Select –> Same –> Fill Color, and it will select the entire mass of the white you don't want. Delete! The white that Illustrator creates with these auto traces is not 100% white, so usually when you do this trick it doesn't also select whites that you created and DO want there.

I have to agree with you. I miss being able to click and drag the layers to highlight them...
