How much can you earn as an accountant in the UK & what factors can increase your salary?

In this video I talk you through what salary you can achieve pre qualification and post qualification and what factors might influence that salary so that if you are thinking about going into accountancy as a career you can consider those factors as part of your decision making.

These factors include such elements as past experience, geographic location, whether you are studying AAT, ATT or another diploma or the ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or another higher professional qualification. Here we also consider sector as well as the size of the business you are hoping to work for and other factors.

I have also included a few estimates from Total Jobs, Glassdoor and Kaplan to hopefully give you a thorough explanation of what salary you can expect working as an accountant in the UK.

I started at 27.5 just outside of London after uni. This increased year on year and then after 3 years once I qualified I went to 46k. I then moved to London into industry after 6 months post qualification and on 55k

My qualification was ACA

Which areas do these salaries align with? Newly qualified in London is between £45-£60k with the most common being £50-55k.

What sort of salary would you expect with the aat 2/3 in Scotland? A lot of the job offers do not specify

Does getting a good grade on you qualification count to anything? For example if you get firsts or distinctions will you get paid more once qualified than if you just passed?
