A powerful realistic pastel portrait executed in a painterly manner by Svay Teng Denis at the Place du Tertre in Montmartre,Paris.After graduating from Phnom Penh's University of Fine Art in 1974,Teng was awarded a scholarship by the government of France to study at The National Superior School of Decorative Art In Paris.In two years, he received his Master Degree in Decorative Architecture.Two years later he completed his Doctorate Degree in Scientifc Art Colour Research.

I showed these amazing videos to my daughters and they watched, captivated ... as I tried my best to give a general narration over the video (quietly of course). Never seen my 10 year old so attentive when watching someone create Art.

This is the way pastel portraits should be done. I see artist doing a full drawn image then filling it in. Paint by numbers. This artist is An artist. Wonderful!

This is more like a how to draw on Mars video ... The amount of skill and personality is extraordinary but the greatest lesson i learnd from this is that it doesnt actually matter wether you do an oil portrait or a single pencil sketch its all about capturing the personality of the person sitting in front of you while staying true to your world an your own emotional state....

Ah, Teng has such a spirit of Paris about him and a great portraitist. When I come to Paris, I hope he will still be at the Place de Tertre.

All that work in 40 minutes !! it is fantastic, i have had portraits made for me by artists that would take them up to 2 hours to complete, it would take that amount of time for myself and has many times when doing portraits. Has Svay got a website !

If you google 'svay teng denis' you should find a site showing his work.He will be back in Paris soon after spending the winter in his native Cambodia building wells and doing other charity work for remote villages.Teng is a real artist..he sees the BIG picture!
