You know, life just really shits on Hawke, huh? First their home is destroyed, their sibling dies, their OTHER sibling either dies, gets tainted and becomes a Grey Warden, gets taken by the Templars, or joins the Templars just to spite you, and their mother is murdered in the most brutal manner by a complete psychopath. Then he/she falls in love with a one of several emotionally unstable characters ranging from: a broody ex-slave elf with lots of anger and issues, a frisky pirate lass that is basically the reason for the Qunari invading and sacking Kirkwall and who later abandons you (granted she comes back if you romance her or your friendship/rivalry is high enough), an angsty but hot abomination that blows up the Kirkwall Chantry and kickstarts the whole mage-templar war, or last but not least, an elven blood mage that is obsessed with a magic mirror and inadvertently gets her clan's leader killer and potentially the rest of the clan as well depending on dialogue options. There's also Sebastian, but he doesn't really count since he's a premium content romance and he's sworn a vow of chastity so you can't actually bang him. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course, to each his own but if you're the type that really wants or needs sex in your relationships then that can kinda put a damper on things unfortunately.

I love how Hawke loves him. And I love this tragic love story. I always choose Fenris, but I love how tragic is Hawke and Anders love.

One thing that always gets me about Anders is he was canonically held in solitary confinement for a year
a year
to this day I don't think the game devs google solitary confinement even once
(for context, the UN considers anything above 15 DAYS to be torture. He was held for about 24 TIMES that amount. There is no way in hell that that boy wouldn't break)
As far as I'm concerned, any character who supports the templars can burn in hell... or, I guess a chantry explosion lol

Anders, to me, is the embodiment of templar corruption inside a mage. Basically he suffered enough of the templar abuse that he did what he did, and in scenarios like that I don't blame him. Do you blame the fire? (Anders) The explosion? (The actual explosion) Or the man who set the fire? (Templar power abuse)

MHawke Anders Romance is a lot more interesting if Hawke let him live but didn't approve of him destroying the Chantry

I always approve Anders' action.
He's a murderer, so is character in Dragon Age francise ever, but with the fact that he's a healer and spend 6 years in a clinic and helping mages escape the circle, i think he save more lives than can counts.
There were innocent people in the chantry, or is there not? No one is innocent. The chantry is full of people like Elthina and Petrice, that do nothing as the Templars oppressed mages, who, if anyone is 'innocent', it's them.
If you abuse people, one day they will do something about it, it's expected, if not by Anders, then someone else will.

Oh Anders... my little mage man-child.  I will forever love him as the problematic fave he is.  HimxGarrettxFenris is 100% the OT3.  

I feel bad his character keeps getting ruined by people who see one thing and don't bother to learn more about him.  He's so much more than the Chantry - LOL it's exactly how (good) Hawke sees it.  Poor man deserves a break... and some cats.

After seeing this, Anders should've been Hawke's friend in the Wardens in DAI. Sacrificing Anders in the Fade would've been pretty cathartic after what he did in DA2.

Cullen and Anders seem to be a different approach to the same coin.
Cullen grew, learned, and saw different sides. He struggles with the torture that was inflicted on him but he became more aware of both conflicts -and became reasonable.
Anders also suffered a great deal. But he got more bitter, and more solidified in his views. The opposite of cullen.

My Hawke that romanced Anders would drag him to Skyhold just to keep him close and fuck anyone that tried to kill him, they better not try. >.< Nope, Bioware doesn't even give that option. Impossible to even to headcannon :(
