FINALLY I HEAR SOMEONE TALKING ABOUT ENDOMETRIOSIS! My mom and sister both have/had it, and I see firsthand how horribly it affected my sister. She's literally on the strongest (legal) birth control out their to stop it, and it only worked because the birth control literally stops most of the functions in her uterus essentially. And after I was born, my mom had her uterus removed as soon as she could so she could stop dealing with the pain. I've literally seen my sister faint multiple times from how excruciating her pain is, and it's fucking heartbreaking. Worst part is, it's not even 1/10 women anymore. It's 1/9. I wish more people knew about what it is, because it honestly sounds like a fake disease when described. But it is very much real, and affects so many women's lives for the worst. I really wish there was more medical research for it so there were more treatment options than the extremes that are the "treatments".

Edit/update: soooo I'm just finding out I probably got endometriosis too, and it's only just now showing symptoms- so that's great 💀

Edit 2: Here's something new I learned from my sister regarding medical research regarding endometriosis vs. other medical research for other things. The largest number of women who were studied with endometriosis was 60, 000 worldwide. A lot of people right? Not for medical research, no. Compare that to the 2 BILLION men who were researched about ED (erectile dysfunction) worldwide. Seems a bit unfair to me tbh

Grew up in house of women. Straight facts. Love your Moms, respect those fighting a good fight, and pity the angry ones. It takes all kinds, but moment of kindness can do wonders.

The reason there aren't any treatments for endometriosis is because women started to be included in medical studies around 1993. And even today most medicine hasnt been researched on women including most pain killers and so on. The medical industry is insane.

As someone with endo, its nice to be reconized, bc always being told its just "cramp pains" and to "get over it" sucks

Actually, new research has come out that shows antibiotics might be able to treat endometriosis. However, they dont want to use it because of antibiotic resistance. But this is still progress as they are able to tell that bacterial infection might be the initial trigger for it. There is obviously a lot more research that needs to be done, but I definitely think they're heading in the right direction.

I'm a dude with an older sister and I always knew that makeup was primarily for the wearer and it was just a secondary benefit that other people also found you attractive with it. It's a means for people to improve their self-image. Sometimes you're looking great even without makeup and sometimes your complexion just needs a bit of help. There is also a lot of fashion and self-expression tied into it. Cosmetics use has a lot of psychology to read into.

Not fun fact - a hysterectomy does not cure endometriosis 😢

Because the endometrial tissue also goes outside of the uterus, a hysterectomy is basically useless in many many cases

I have Endo. My mom never told me what it was, nor that she had it, so I went through my entire teenage years experiencing such bad pain and such bad bleeding I was regularly bleeding through extra heavy night pads. For context, most of those with menstrual cycles use those pads for their heaviest days to prevent them from ruining their sheets and pjs. I was bleeding through those daily. The pain has always felt like low grade labor to the point I can even tell exactly which ovary is ovulating and exactly where they are in my abdomen. When she finally told me, she mentioned she had it in such an offhand way and I just broke down crying because all of my pain could’ve been taken seriously this entire time if I hadn’t been told “oh, your period is SUPPOSED to hurt that much”. I was gaslit for years about that. If your period is long and aggressively painful, please talk to an OB/GYN. Some birth control can help make the pain so much less.

Sometimes cancer comes with it too.been in remission for 12 years now. I knew I had it for years couldn't get a dr to check for it till they found it, always listen to your body ladies.

endomitriosis can also be chronic, not just when its period time.

I also dont get any physiological reward from applying makeup, mostly its just reinforcing my suboptimal self-esteem cos I suck at applying it despite effort.

Bro, I don't wear makeup often, but when I do I'm not doing it for anyone else but me. I want to feel hot, I want to have a couple of cute pics. I get so annoyed when I finally decided I want to wear makeup and there's some pick me chick making comments about my “Face full of cake” when she's wearing thick af mascara and blush. Like dude, you can wear makeup, it's fine. You don't have to pretend to be so different. Find an actual thing to make you different without bringing down other people.

I'm fine with wearing makeup but i genuinely think the imperfections make the beauty, less like a canvas and like a tree without it's bark, letting you see all of the unique traces of the wood.
Scar tissue, bags, pimples, freckles, even the way light falls on your face.
They all tell a story of how you've lived and with makeup i get creeped out because a lot of the signifiers i use are gone.

I have endometriosis and I regularly missed school during my period growing up. I was often sent home after vomiting because the pain was so bad. I'd be holed away in the bathroom for 30-60 minutes just riding out the horrors before I could finally go home. They had me on some prescription painkillers for my time of the month for years, essentially from the onset of my period, give take a few months. It was VERY NOTED that I had problems with excessive period pain, and even sciatica (that I later found out was due to uterine tissue pressing on my nerve) but not a single doctor caught it or even considered it. I heard about it from a friend, did some research on my own, then asked my doctor if it was a possibility. The fact that I had to do the heavy lifting to figure out what was giving me 9-10 out of 10 pain every month for something so common is still infuriating to me! Like fuck, could you not have done the testing when you realized I needed medication stronger than ibuprofen?

It's actually a ESTIMATED range of 5-10% globally so thankfully not that common.

From my experience with it, it can also cause excessive bleeding

My mom has endometriosis, and couldn’t get diagnosed for like 15 years, she was in excruciating pain and basically went anemic because her heavy heavy heavy flow was giving her both an iron deficiency and making her bleed out.

There's endometriosis and adenomyosis, endo grows on the outer wall and adeno grows in the muscles of the uterus. You can have one without the other or you could be like me and have both. The pain sucks (that's putting lightly) but it becomes a stressful thought about the future cause it causes infertility quite young, I don't plan on having kids but I don't know if that's how I'll feel 5 years from now. I got my eggs frozen to prepare for this but because endo lowers your egg count I had to do the freezing 6-7 times, that was 2 years ago and I feel like I'm only now starting to get over how much those procedures affected my body.
There are some good sites that talk about healthy lifestyle changes to cope with endo and those have really helped.

That isn’t a “girl secret” that is a medical condition

Endometriosis is 50% of the reason I don't have any siblings. After I was born, my mother put up with it for a few more years before it got so agonizing that she had to have her uterus removed. So far it seems I didn't inherit it (as it can be hereditary), which I'm extremely grateful for.
