In video posted on social media, Abdullah Mohammad and his daughter Salwa, three, can be heard laughing at the sound of shelling in Syria.

Mohammad, who moved his family from Idlib to Sarmada district, has tried to insulate his daughter from trauma by telling her the noise of bombs is part of a game. In September 2018, Turkey and Russia agreed to turn Idlib into a de-escalation zone in which acts of aggression are prohibited, but since then more than 1,800 civilians have been killed in attacks by the Assad regime and Russian forces

The sound of a bomb and the sound of a child’s laughter. The love of a father protecting his girl from the horrors of war. Heartbreaking and beautiful in the same time. Humanity at its best and at its worst, captured in 21 seconds.

So sad. She's adorable and her daddy is doing the best he can in this horrible mess :(

Better to die in joyous laughter than cowering and suffering in fear. What a beautiful gift, to preserve a child’s innocence for as long as possible. 💖

I believe the father is trying to minimize the trauma his child will suffer through her childhood, because of war! This is so sad, I wish, WAR would end!

This video makes me feel like I'm going to cry. It's great that he is trying to help his daughter cope but it's sad that they have to do it in the first place.

I went through this situation. I was four years old with my older sister, my father and my mother. The American B52 planes were bombing very close areas. The house was moving and the glass was shattering from the intensity of the shelling. The only person smiling was my father. He gave me some safety and comfort. I still remember all This and I think that this child will not forget this position forever

I normally do not cry but brake my heart in pieces. While politicians enjoyed their luxurious life not caring nobody than their selfs. This is a real father using everything for the well being of her daughter.

My granny was a child during WWII and she always said how much her father was fundamental for her coping throughout such a harsh time

I cried after watching this video. Every child in this world deserves a normal, happy childhood. What are we heading to!? This world seriously lacks empathy, and has twisted priorities. Wake up people, don’t just live for yourselves. We need to fix this!

Kudos to you Sir, you brought both a smile and a broken hearted tear that you suffer so. You are a brilliant father of a beautiful daughter. 💙

What a brave dad. My dad had me do something similar because I was scared of thunder, it’s heartbreaking that he has to do it because of the sounds of bombs
