Sony finally brought its PS4 Remote Play app to the App Store, which means you can now stream games from your PS4 straight to your iPhone. In this video, Macworld’s Leif Johnson shows you how to set it up and provides a few pointers.

For the best experience, we recommend playing with the Rotor Riot iOS Controller. It’s the only MFi (Made for iPhone) controller that allows use of the L3 and R3 thumb-stick buttons, which are frequently used in PS4 games.

2:43 if you make a second PlayStation account you can use the dual shock controller with your phone or tablet. Remember the controller is connected to the PlayStation and not your phone or tablet so you have to stay close. But they do make Bluetooth controllers for when you are away. I have the steel series Nimbus but the sticks don’t click in. Although I just saw a better Nimbus at Walmart the other day that has clickable sticks. And clickable sticks was the only reason I wanted to use my dual shock. I didn’t think any of the Nimbus controllers had this. Now that I know it makes me mad because I spent $40 on the controller.

I downloaded the app, and I managed to connect the PS4 in my bedroom to my iPhone 13. But say I want to play my game while on lunch here at work. My work place and my house don’t have the same WiFi. Either that or my workplace WiFi sucks.

I’ve been doing this for over a year now with the R-Play app. I don’t think the Sony app lets you play over cellular yet. I could be wrong. I have an iPad that I play at home with the dual shock controller. I had to make a second PlayStation account to do this hopefully next generation you don’t have to. And when I’m out with my phone I have an MFI controller connected through Bluetooth. Using the touchscreen is no way to play a game. You need physical buttons and sticks. I would suggest having a PS4 Pro connected to the Internet with a cable and then connect to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi from your phone or tablet. The PS4 Pro will let you play at higher resolutions and frame rates.
