Multiplying Whole Numbers, Fractions, and Decimals

Multiplying fractions or decimals in upper elementary is much less daunting when we recognize the knowledge students bring that sets them up for success with this concept. In this session, we'll explore the progression of teaching multiplication from 3rd to 5th grade, including work with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. We'll look at the representations that are most relevant to students and discuss overlooked opportunities when teaching multiplication. You'll walk away from this session with the understanding and strategies to help students make many more connections as they grow their understanding of multiplication.
