Adidas Most Misunderstood Shoe - Boston 10

The Boston 10 wasn't the shoe we were hoping for. But that doesn't mean it's a bad shoe. I think we're all just using it wrong. But even when you're using the Boston 10 to it's strengths, it still leaves so many questions. In this video, I'll talk about how I think the Boston is best used, talk about what the Boston faithful should be running instead of the 10, and then discuss some training and racing pairings that I think make sense in the current Adidas lineup (Adios Pro 2, Boston 10, Adios 6, SL20, and Takumi Sen)

Good to see you take another look at it. Boston 10 works great for me when I want to put up some speed sessions without injuring myself the next day. I’m heavier runner and I can’t run in the SL20 longer than 7km. To me boston 10 is a saucony endorphin for us +80kg people.

I love my Boston 10s. They are keeping my feet fresh after long runs with the firm ride and high stack height. The misunderstanding as many have stated is due to the naming. My rotation now is the pro 2 for marathons, the Boston 10 for distance, and the adios 6 with speed work and 5K racing.

Edit: I look forward to your Takumi Sen review. Maybe I’ll get a pair for 10K to half racing.

Thank you for the breakdown. I have run in Bostons since the 6 and really enjoyed them but was bewildered when I saw the changes Adidas made this year. I wish Adidas would simplify their lines, this is all getting very confusing

Thanks for more clarification with the Boston 10 and the overall Adidas lineup. The Boston is just too heavy now with too much going on. I loved previous versions and now will have to go with the Adios 6. Thanks again!😁👍

I love the Boston 10 and I’m somewhat surprised by it. Before getting my hands on the shoes, most reviews I’ve come across are negative and I didn’t even consider it. At a steep discount, it was hard to pass over. However, a trend I’ve seen with reviews is people on the heavier side loves it. I’m 180 lbs and the Boston works great for me. I don’t use it as a speed shoe but daily trainer and I use the Boston 10 for those slow miles too and love it. Mind you, my go to is the Nike Invincible for slow days but I don’t find the Boston 10 firm at all but balanced. I’m surprised that carbon plate on the heel doesn’t bother me but I’m not a heel striker either. It seems the midsole soften up the more mileage I put on it. It’s also the ultimate treadmill shoe for me. Just a perfect midsole combination that is a delight. I also own the Adios 6 and while also a great shoe not a versatile shoe for me. I can’t run slower paces with the Adios 6 without it feeling too firm but great for faster paces. I agree, the Adios 6 is the new Boston or should be the what the Boston could have been. The Boston 10 to me is just a new running shoe from Adidas that seem to work well for people using it for faster workouts or runners on the heavier side. People mention the Boston 10 is firm but I feel like it got plenty of compression for me.

I've been using the Boston 10s, Adios 6s and Adizero Pros (not the marathon racing shoe but the more "traditional" flat). I've found that I like:
- Boston for easy runs at the top end of easy paces. Any slower and its not as soft and cushioned as I want for a recovery shoe, any faster or longer and I want less shoe.
- Adios 6 for long runs, faster steady runs, longer tempos/thresholds. There's just less shoe and a bit more responsiveness than the Boston.
- Adizero pro for any workouts and track stuff.
I enjoy all 3 and do like the Boston - the runs I'm doing in the Adios 6 I used to do in Boston 8s/9s so I do understand why people are dissapointed in the Boston however.

From 4:25 on you nailed it on the shoes "new" running range. The shoe thickness makes it a low injury risk shoe. It is heavy but that's good for training. If you need more speed use the pro 2!

Great video! I picked up the adios 6 on sale and def have been trying to find its niche in my line up. Would have preferred Boston for the stack height but I think maybe made the right decision for tempo

i use the Boston 10 on any training runs over 10k. Firmness of the lightstrike adds some stabiity in the later miles and the lightstrike pro makes it easy on the feet. I see this shoe as what the mach 4 was trying to be.

I've got the Berlin edition adios Pro 2. But no marathon booked yet. I prefer the solar boost for my easy and lond runs over the sl20

I experienced some sort of paresthesia in my forefoot using the Boston 10. More so in my right foot. It's been only around 10 miles-ish. But that's a weird sensation when running. Even UB21 don't do that to my foot. But I'll still use the 10 just to see if it gets better over time.

It would really helpful if these shoes came with some literature. I realize companies don't want to box themselves in, but I think less discretion actually helps the longer existence of the line. Especially when making as drastic a change as the Boston line

I just bought them because of the price. I made it only 3/4 of a mile and I am returning them. My heal (PF) was in odd pain and the upper was irritating my foot as well. I also wasn't really excited to read that it is made of recycled materials as it said on the box. It kind of looks like a 2nd hand shoe in the color I bought. This was my first venture into the Adidas brand.

I love this shoe, i use it on long runs with tempo pace inbetween. I also use it in on my intervals. So much so i bought 2 pairs of boston 10s as it is on 20-30% sale here on the philippines. When the boston 11 came out i immediately took it using my discount voucher on adidas. Its just the same feel just a bit tad lighter on weighing scale that’s all but the ride and everything is the same. In my case i don’t feel the weight reduction cos of the upper, only my weighing scale felt it 😂

Awesome video Mike. Great way in trying to rationalise these shoes.

I concur that for racing, you do feel the weight of the Boston 10's after 13KM and unlike the previous generations it's tougher to find that final gear near the end.

Indeed the Adios 6 is the "sneaky" Boston revamp we wanted. Great shoe.

Solarboosts are actually much better than one thinks - weighty but a solid performer. 🤣

The final eyelet was a little too far forward (checked against a bunch of other shoes) so I stopped the horrendous heel slip by punching in a new hole 6/7 mm rearward. I think it’s clever where it’s gone but just normal lightstrike in the SL20, adios 6 and b10 ruins the rear of the shoes. Like blocks of wood. It helps my shins but it was giving me dead feet from 11-18 km and I need to rest more with the new eyelet. It fixes the worst part of adidas shoes—split heel cup but has the second worste, lightstrike. But the laces were cinched so hard without the extra eyelet to stop the heel slip.

I have started to like it, but I think the ASICS Glideride 1 is far superior and most similar feeling shoe. ASICS magic speed and the ZF3 better than adios 6. The Novablast better than the invincible and the ultraboost. I’m a fanboy of Nike and Adidas but ASICS is all over them at the moment :/

I Really liked the video. Could you do this kind of lineup for other brands? Thanks

I didn’t understand the new Boston 10 either. In my opinion, the modernized Boston, is the Takumi Sen 8.
