My review of the Philips Hue HDMI Sync box and how to get 4K HDMI 2.1

Maybe Phillips should just create an updated sync box which natively supports HDMI 2.1. I have been waiting and won’t purchase till they update.

The PS5 only outputs RGB 8bit and The Xbox Outputs RGB 10bit that’s why when switching between consoles the spitter glitches!

Having a hdmi 2.1 capable TV and console, the limitations of the sync box are becoming ever more apparent. To me personally, it just seems like philips have given up on the syncbox and are doing nothing to improve the experience without customers needing to jank together workarounds. It's almost 5 years and they have not bothered updating the sync box or at least decreasing the sync box price since. At this point, I'm starting to question whether or not the lights are worth the hassle for such a high barrier of entry to get this all to work.

For anyone who had similar issues I just fixed mine. I own both a ps5 and an Xbox series x with a 4k 120hz tv so I wanted to be able to use both at full capacity along with my hue sync system. How I accomplished this was similar to this creators but slightly cheaper. I bought two(2) hdmi splitters off Amazon from the same brand as his but half the price. I’m not totally sure what the difference between them is but I was able to get one for each system for the price of his one item. They have a 4K function and a 1080p downscale function which I used to plug into the hue sync box since you wouldn’t be seeing the output anyways. It’s a mess of wires but when it’s all said and done you’re able to switch seamlessly between both systems at full capacity and with your lights synced up to it as well

HDMI 2.1
Thanks a lot for this!! i have had the Hue sync box for 2 years now, and it keeps going black while I play games.
I ordered the HDMI switch immediately with express shipping.
Can't wait to set it up :)

Almost what I need. I need inputs for 2 devices though. I want to run a Xbox and an Apple TV. I wish Philips would just make a new sync box that would support 4k120hz.

Wow 4K 120 is cutting edge for consumer level gear. No lag and flawless integration and performance. It's a winner.

Thanks for this! Have the exact same set up + Apple TV hooked up to the sync box on its HDMI port and output port.
When switching between Apple TV to PS5 I have to plug out the Apple TV from the sync box output port for the sync lights to work with the PS5.

Any workaround so we don’t have to take out the Apple TV from the HDMI Out port on the Hue sync box?

Hi
Thanks for the video. I’ve bought all the gadgets you mentioned in this video. But I’m struggling to get them all connected seamlessly.
These are my devices: Roku stream bar, PS5, Nintendo Switch.
Could you please let me know the input output I should use? And on the TV input, which input? I’m using Hisense 65” U7KM.
I’d greatly appreciate your help.

@geekstreet This looks promising but I wonder what happens with Dolby Vision signal. It is a well known fact that the Philips Syncbox is unable to sync lights on a Dolby Vision signal, so I was wondering if this setup fixes this issue too (essentially the question is whether the HDMI splitter can somehow "remove" the Dobly Vision layer so that the Philips Syncbox can be fed a non Dolby Vision 1080p signal). Did you try any Dolby Vision output from your Xbox on your tests? Would be nice if you have feedback on this!! Thanks!

brilliant idea! Buy I have both gaming console and Apple TV 4K, your approach seems can only make sure the gaming console be adapted to the lighting system. Wonder if there is a way to adapt 2 input source?

HDMI 2.1! Here b/c I'm gonna try this setup with the Govee AI box and I'm hoping you can validate my plan:

Xbox Series X going into the splitter and from there to the my XR-77A80J's HDMI port 4 for the 4k 120hz. The second output in the splitter will go to the Govee sync box. My UltraHD blu-ray player and cable box will go straight into the Govee sync box. And the Govee's output will go into the TV's HDMI port 2 (since those devices don't *need* 120hz). I'm going to run a cable from the XR-77A80J's HDMI port 3 (the only one that's EARC-enabled) straight to my soundbar. Does this all check out? And follow-up: Do I need HDMI 2.1 for all? I may need one more wall-rated cable that's over 10feet to sort this all out. Any recommendations on those (I know 2.1 over 10' isn't recommended).

Thanks!
