"As demonstrators across America fight to liberate black people, whether through calls to abolish the police or through legislative action against systemic racism, the country is getting ready to celebrate the 155th anniversary of one of its earliest liberation moments: Juneteenth.
A portmanteau of “June” and “nineteenth,” Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when a group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned that they were free from the institution of slavery. But, woefully, this was almost two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation; the Civil War was still going on, and when it ended, Union Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger traveled to Texas and issued an order stating that all enslaved people were free, establishing a new relationship between “former masters and slaves” as “employer and hired labor.” As much as Juneteenth represents freedom, it also represents how emancipation was tragically delayed for enslaved people in the deepest reaches of the Confederacy."

OMG, I'm from NYC and i swear i still can't get over that people call this president. OMG back in the day ( I'm a lil older so i saw him young) we knew he was a freaking joke. We used to laugh at him in the city, where ever he was or whatever her was doing. Always trying to do to much. I'm just saddened that we as AMERICANS allowed this to happen. We can't let it continue. I'm an 70 now, I've known about "Black Wallstreet" (Juneteenth) since I was 13 (1963). When the whites In 1921, Tulsa, Oklahoma's Greenwood District. Went nuts and destroyed the district. Committing murder and mayhem. It took 57 years to bring it to the forefront.

Im a 82 yr old (white)lady from Texas. We always celebrated June teenth all my life. He was busy learning how to be vicious from Roy Cohn, he just didnt have time to learn any thing else. He calls people names because his vocubulary is so tiny. I learned history one way in Texas, and another in Illinois helping my children with their homework. But I read about June teenth in both history books. No wonder his professor wasnt impressed by his intellect. Trump doesnt want security tomorrow because there will be a terrible commotion down there. He will be sicking his attact dogs on people.Youve got to be nuts to go to that rally. Apparently a Secret Service agent informed the President just how much that date means to people. None from the Administration said a word against the date, only a Service agent managed to make a difference and changed Trump's plans.

I learned about Juneteenth on June 29th, 1993. My daughter was born on Juneteenth and I was looking up anything famous for that date. Thought it was awesome that a new birth happened in another new birth so to speak.
