Raise Your Flags is a modern country crossover song written by Nicola Harris for everyone who has felt vulnerable or victimized.
Nicola wanted to incapsulate the feelings that her herself felt after she was portrayed so obscurely at the hands of X Factor. Nicola suffered for years mentally not only with what was aired, but with what happened behind the scenes that the viewer didn't get to witness.
Nicola was also there for her best friend when he finally found the courage to separate from his wife because he could no longer hide the fact that he was gay. It was very painful all round and many of his friends disowned him, that truly hurt him, but over time he is now happy living the life he craved with three wonderful sons that came out of his marriage.
Nicola's niece has cerebral palsy. Her niece attended normal school as mentally there is nothing wrong with her, she just struggles slightly to walk as far as most as her condition effects her legs. Children can be so cruel and say such hurtful things. There were times when her niece would sit there and hit her own legs out of frustration that they wouldn't work the same as the other children's at school. It would break Nicola's heart hearing and seeing her get so upset.
