I work in javascript everyday and your algorithm course showed me that I knew nothing about javascript. I think that the reason why people say they work in JS for years but fail in algorithms is because they pretty much do the same type of programming everday. When doing websites for clients you tend to recycle workable code over and over and rarely come up with new things...I know that the case for me alot of times

This is about practice? I mean, listen, we're talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, we talking about practice.

I needed this video; was getting really frustrated and losing motivation halfway through the algorithm portion, but you validated that this is part of the process. Thank you for all of your content :)

I just finished this certification. For new devs, I would strongly recommend complimenting the freeCodeCamp curriculum with other tutorials/courses. The algorithm scripting challenges are great and you should do ALL of them. However, some of the more advanced concepts are not explained thoroughly enough for you to gain a real understanding. Make sure to spend extra time understanding ES6 and Object Oriented JavaScript (prototypical inheritance, higher order functions, etc.). Dylan has some great content to compliment freeCodeCamp and I also recommend Code With Mosh.

thanks for the I started couple months ago and I am working through this section currently. I went through the other sections with only a little trouble, but this section has been a killer. I'm just trusting the process I will probably cop your algorithm course after I finish this just to get more knowledge .

I'm just getting started and I'm about to start the course next week. I'm nervous, but I really appreciate what you had to say about it, and I feel a lot more encouraged! Thanks for your thoughts and wish me luck!

I know basic JS and I would like to see yet again my fundamentals and more specifically how to play around arrays etc
You think the above FCC section would be enough or an overkil??

I just did the very last question "Cash Register" in this course today. I solved it without any help or googling, was not straight forward. I am really feeling good at this moment.

I just finished the javascript data structures as well, very good i must say. I do have a bs in computer engineering. Its mostly a bull-sh*t degree which didnt teach me anything and cant find 1 job related to my degree in NYC without moving. I still had to hustle with the javascript certificate. So far the most lengthy one. Looking forward for your opinions on the next Front end libraries certificate, i just started it.

You are so right... this is by far the hardest certification. I had to go through the basic and intermediate algorithm challenges so many times till i got comfortable. thanks a lot Dylan for your review.

Hey Dylan, are you a front end web developer? I'm asking because I'm looking for a job/internship right now and just have the HTML/CSS/JS sections under my belt, so I'm wondering what I can do to find a position that fits that knowledge base. Thanks for the great videos and insight.

Thanks for your review Dylan right now I'm currently working on my Data Structure certification from FreeCodeCamp and it's not easy at all. I honestly thought about quitting but I've continued with it until I finish. I have noticed a lot of improvement when I code but it is still difficult. Thank again for your efforts.

Oddly enough, the algorithms have been favorite part of the JavaScript section. I was somewhat unfamiliar with data structures and regular expressions so those sections were grind to get through, although I think they make for great reference material now that I’m past them. I’m really enjoying the intermediate algorithm section since I think of it like trying to solve a puzzle. They are definitely a step up from most of the programming I’ve done in the past, but that makes them more rewarding to get past. It’s reassuring to know that these aren’t all supposed to be easy though. I’m champing at the bit to reach the front end libraries so I can start integrating the JavaScript with the front end to start making more sophisticated websites. I want to make sure the days of using Dreamweaver templates to update a website layout stay in the past where they belong.

Some of the JavaScript does at times, get you puzzled as you do the code and can not see the solution, then all of a sudden you see that you have missed something as simple as a semicolon. Yet could take a while to figure out that you have. That is the interesting part of learning something new, that it can take a while to sink in yet when you finally do understand it having the satisfaction of being able to pass that knowledge on to others. Happy Coding.

is 14 a good age to start? cuz im halfway done through the basic javascript and i thought that "Is this it?" and then after watching this video i realize theres still more and that got me pumped up and motivate me to do more. Eventhough im struggling right now and i dont like it really much but software engineer is my dream. and if youre dealing the same problem with me just remember to "NOT GIVE UP" :)
