When to use texturizing and thinning shears

I do have a question. I just watched another video where a woman was explaining how to use these types of trimming/thinning shears. She said always use the teeth on top & the straight line on bottom. I’m assuming everyone has their own technique and was wondering why you used yours on the bottom?

Please make videos to cut hair myself at home? For medium length hair, a bit heavy weight and medium thick.

Want to make layers for volume to avoid flat hair. If I try to make volume on top and near ear, then under ear hair length, below shoulder would become thin and I want volume at the end of length too.

If I make layers at long length end below shoulder, then top of the head has no volume and makes looking flat.

That shear gives me terrible fly aways that stick up. Almost looks like split ends. Never again
