Every year, a few times a year, I have a bad reaction to poison ivy. This time, it has affected my eye.

Each time I was exposed and had a bad reaction, I was given prednisone. It got to the point where, after I was exposed, the effects of the poison ivy wouldn’t go away after using prednisone.

People typically take prednisone for its anti-inflammatory or immune suppressant effects. But, prednisone has side effects.

Prednisone is a synthetic version of cortisol. Cortisol has benefits. It’s a hormone that helps the immune system and prepares the body for stress. But, high cortisol levels can lead to a lot of health concerns.

You don’t want to be on prednisone forever. The more you take it, the more it weakens the system. But, if you stop taking it, your symptoms may come back. So, why don't we get to the root problem? Keep in mind that once you start taking prednisone, it’s important not to come off of it too fast. Prednisone and cortisol also deplete the body of numerous vitamins and minerals.

The best ways to lower cortisol:
1. Lower your stress (do physical work, exercise, spend more time on a hobby, and take certain nutrients)
2. Take ashwagandha
3. Try breathing exercises
4. Use an HRV device to better understand your stress

Poison ivy oils are very volatile; if you're extremely sensitive you can get it from the air. No one is thinking about how bad you look, just concerned for how bad you feel - wishing you a speedy recovery, Dr. Berg!

Just wanted to stop by and say that as a result of watching your channel, I have improved my life 1000%! I went from 265 to 210. No more high blood pressure, diabetes, and other maladies associated with inflammation of the joints and hips. It's winter now, so I am having trouble walking outdoors I had to move to the gym which is not optimal for me. I was up to 10 miles a day before winter, so this is killing me, lol. THANK YOU, DR. BERG!

When I was a teenager, I started breaking out in poison ivy and getting the shots every year when people burned it off. When I graduated high school, I went to live on a wintering farm for race horses near the Pennsylvania/Maryland border. The farm also had a herd of cows and a herd of goats (which were used as companion animals for the high-strung race horses). I drank the raw goat milk and stopped being allergic to poison ivy. I was told that the goats eat poison ivy and pass their immunity to it to their kids through their milk.

Dr. Berg. My daughter got poison ivy all over her face when she was a girl and she had did some gardening and pulled it thinking it was just a normal weed and then touched her face all over. She broke out and was swollen so bad. An elderly lady at church said I know what you need and went outside and picked broad leaf plantain and said to lightly cook it and get the juices to release and apply it to the skin. We did that and it was gone in hours not days. I since then have realized that broad leaf plantain grows near poison ivy as a rule. You can just roll it and scrub the poison ivy if it is not in a sensitive place or chew it until it gets soggy and then put it on the sensitive area. the juice in the leaves is what does the job. Just thought you might find some relief quickly if you can get your hands on this plant. Thanks for the warnings in this video. I do not like to take any drugs and this is why; they have side effects. Natural things are the way to go.
