ADDITIONAL: Note, I LOVED parts of this chapter...I just wished this was done in a more ordered manner instead of this mess.

Sorry Masako but it seems like you're overestimating instant transmission. Goku has definitely improved significantly in using IT. But the idea of him teleporting from one universe to another is way too broken. And why would he bring gas towards jiren? That's his problem! Not Universe 11's. Also there's nothing wrong with Whis helping gas. Whis is neutral. He could not give two shits about Goku winning or losing. The only reason he is "friends" with Goku is because of earth's food and to train him to become a formidable opponent for beerus.

This arc is basically, “what does the Saiyan’s past mean to you?”

I personally loved this chapter. Goku was so in control of himself like the Z-days. It showed ways in which Gas is vulnerable. And FINALLY we had Goku have a degree of interaction with memories of Bardock. I think Goku might be having a character arc set up for him for the first time probably since the Cell saga, probably.

7:43 Although i under that chapter 77 could've explained this, i feel that hearing Bardock's voice from his scouter is better than just hearing his dads name. Especially since Goku only remembers his dad by his voice.

Goku and Vegeta's arc in this is about "embracing your true self." Vegeta needs to move forward from the sins of the past. Goku needs to remember his. I personally believe it was done very well.

My issue with "Goku should have instant transmitted to Jiren" is, when have we ever gotten confirmation that you can use instant transmission to move through universes? I get Goku is good at it, but feeling the energy of someone in an entirely different universe is too much.

Also, Dragon Ball needs to have a gag thrown in every now and then, just to remind certain fans that this series is not THAT serious.

Toriyama and Toyotaro managed to subvert Minus into something crucial for Goku completing Ultra Instinct. Who really is Goku? Well we wouldn’t fully know because how lost a part of his self at a young age. I’m very impressed with this story

I got to ask, what point in bringing Broly or Jiren in this arc when they have no connection whatsoever? And Bardock isn't coming out of left field. His fight is connected to the main way to defeat Gas. If he hadn't been revealed or talked about heavily in this arc beforehand, I'd understand the frustration. I'll admit I wish to just see the fight soon too, but the story being monthly don't help affairs either.

I really enjoyed this chapter. From the acknowledgment of Raditz existing in the story, to finally getting more backstory on Bardock vs Gas.

And Jiren? How is Goku going to IT into a different universe?

I disagree with your rant for the following reasons
1) Vegeta gave Goku all his remaining ki in the last chapter, expecting Vegeta to still somehow beable to fight off against Maki and Oil wouldn't make anysense and just be poor writing.

2) Goku remembering his parents by hearing Bardocks voice honestly makes the most logical sense, Monato kept Bardocks scouter in his house and only initially came out to find out who Granola was fighting. It makes no sense for Monato to just randomly go outside holding Bardocks Scouter.

3) Bardock was used from the very beginning of this arc, he was always going to be important in this arc because of his connections to Granola and Monato. I dont see the issue with using Bardock because it he was always set up from the beginning to be crucial to the events of this arc.

4) Goku teleporting to Jiren would be horrible writing, what does Jiren have to do with this arc? Goku has never even travelled outside the Universe himself so having him somehow detect Jirens energy in a far away Universe would be BS. I do agree that Friezas ship should have been one of the places Goku went to I ll give you that but Jiren makes the least sense.

Cannot disagree with you more right now. I’m gonna come back to this video when the arc is over to see if I still feel the same.

I disagree with Goku remembering Bardock in this chapter being the wrong time. Just before Monaito brings up the scouter Whis was having a chat with Goku about Ultra Instinct. Goku mentions he couldn’t have a calm state of mind and control it like he does. Whis points out that the problem is that he is a different life form and he has to find his own version of Ultra Instinct by “listening to the voice within him” My guess is that Goku, ever since the end of Broly with the “Call me Kakarot” line, has been slowly embracing his Saiyan heritage. And in this chapter right after his chat with Whis ends, that’s where his memories of Bardock and Gine are unlocked. I sense that there is link between his Saiyan nature and controlling Ultra Instinct that Goku has to discover. If this is the case, then yes I believe this chapter was the perfect time to bring up Bardock and Gine. If not, well, will just have to see. I wanted to point this out not only cause of the Bardock and Gine memories, but also cause that Whis conversation I felt was a very important piece of dialogue which you didn’t mention in this review.

Masako I thought this chapter was brilliant. Especially the Bardock setup. Think about it. How can Goku complete a technique when he doesn’t know his complete sense of self? HE LOST HIS MEMORIES! Toriyama managed to bring that old plot point to this arc and make it relevant for Goku’s development. GENIUS!!!

I find it hilarious how many people are complaining about Goku's parents being made more relevant to the story after decades of people constantly making up "what if" scenarios, fan stories, and literally asking and wishing for it to happen.

I like it, because it's something that gives Goku a little bit of character development for once, something that a large portion of the fan base has complained about for a long time now.

I loved this. I had this in the back of my mind, couple of years back, I was like, “Man, I hope one day Goku remembers his parents." And now it's finally happening! And I thought more people would be happy as well buuuut I was in the minority. But that's fine, I am curious to what you think.

I think this was a great chapter. You mention him teleporting to Jiren but... since when can Goku IT to different Universes? Plus - What would Broly do if Gas is the strongest in the Universe? Vegeta has no power left btw... Idk if you remember but he gave the rest of his Ki to Goku. Goku raced back to protect them because he knew this. Whis somewhat slowed Gas down anyways. Whis took a little bit of time to tell Gas where to go and clearly knew how long it would take him to find Goku. I don't understand why you have a beef with the timing of when Goku is remembering his family. Why does it matter when Goku remembers his family? We already knew Bardock defeated Gas in the past and we were hinted CHAPTERS AGO that there was something he did to defeat Gas. Gas remembering the battle would tell us nothing because Gas wouldn't reveal how Bardock defeated him to his kin.

Idk it just seems like you're overlooking some details maybe?

this chapter was great and I really think you trapped yourself into hating it by expecting it to do something that it was never workign towards. We never saw the Gas and Bardock fight in the flashback so it was obvious we would return to it, and them looking into it as a last resort to try and figure out how to defeat Gas or atleat hold him off long enough for granola to recover is the perfect way to tie the present conflict and the past conflict together, otherwise the flashbacks would just be the fanservice they were.

Whis not helping is in character, he's not mirus, he likes goku but he's not going to help out that directly. He sent gas in the right direction, but warned goku and gave him a clue for getting stronger. That's exactly the sort of thing he would do as we've seen his character.

I get why your frustrated, but it has nothing to do with the writing, it's just your expectations getting the best of you. the title not being at the front also probably threw you off since you need that for your videos and you skimmed over some details that you'd usually be more observant on.

The jokes reminded me of how Goku humiliated Frieza during their final fight by "slapping some sense into him" and Krillin doing the same by smacking his butt and teasing Frieza. It's a really good chapter and him hearing his father's voice for the first time was amazing.

the best thing about this chapter was the oracle fish going "huh? who is that?". it implies that gas simply isnt the supreme warrior that the oracle fish saw at the start of the saga. if thats the case, and since we know gas right now is stronger than goku, vegeta & granolah, it is implied that an even stronger foe/friend will show up. and that, is Hype.

hopefully the fish just dosnt go "oh yea it was goku all along" because that would be boring...
also other than that the chapter is pretty mediocre.
