All your unused $1 coins (and nearly every coin) ended up in El Salvador or Ecuador, both countries use USD, in fact $1 bills are so rare used in El Salvador that we distinguish US Citizens or our diaspora from the US because they all use 1 dollar bills fresh from the Airport

The parking garages in my city changed to dispense those $1 coins. People hated them so much that they'd specifically come into the gas station I work at nearby to exchange them. The owner allowed the exchanges as long as the customer also bought something and we were refused to give the coins out as cash.
