When people have asked me how I know how to do my hair and makeup so well, or so confidently, the playing and letting myself mess up is exactly what I tell them. When I don’t have anywhere to be, it can be so fun to just play and see what happens. You learn so much that way. Great video!

I love this. So often I feel like I “can’t” or “shouldn’t” sit down and try random makeup because “it’s a waste, I’m not going anywhere, I should be doing something else, etc.” I’m going to try and just play with makeup! I haven’t let myself in forever!

In regards to number 6… *As a fellow painter*, one of the best painters I ever knew in life once said to me, and I believe it to be totally true is, “You gotta get all the bad paintings out of you. Then your real paintings flow out and you start to really love what you’re doing.” Not only practicing but finding out what works for you, with the products on your face!

My number 6 would be: don’t wear something you don’t like just because it’s a trend - it kind of ties into not being afraid to try things/play/make mistakes, but if it doesn’t make you feel good, don’t feel like you have to keep stuff on that you don’t like. For instance, I am not a fan of the ‘exclamation nose’ or the ‘rudolf nose’ - so I don’t feel pressured to wear them even when they’re on trend. If you like it, rock it! Just don’t be afraid to not jibe with every trend that comes along, and know that not every trend will work on your face

Skin prep is so important! Even if you have the best rated foundation, if you don't skin prep well it won't reach its full potential. Also, practice makes perfect. I OFTEN have customers who won't wear makeup because they don't know how or they don't want to spend hours in front of the mirror in the morning, so I tell them "when you're bored or have some time on your hands, play around with makeup and see what fits your face and what you like. You'll learn how to do makeup and to do it quickly."

Wow, this look with the cherry earrings is so fun! I love seeing playful looks like this. It makes me want to try playing more with my makeup.

As someone who works at Sephora, I see people too often putting too light of a concealer under the eyes. If you have puffiness and deep lines it just accentuates texture and puffiness!! Love this video!!

I'm still in love with those cherry earrings. And yay for some more maximalist looks! I love clean girl make up as a baseline, but that shouldn't keep us from playing, experimenting, and having some fun with it!

Something I learned from a Sephora employee a decade ago was to use a gray eyebrow pencil as someone who has very dark brown hair. I had gone through so many years of trying different browns that just didn’t work for my eyebrow shade or looked really obvious (probably due to the warm tone). Somehow the gray just works for me, I use “granite” by the drugstore brand Marcelle

Alex, sunglasses season is upon us soon. Would love a video to show us how to handle sweat marks from sunglasses!

Maximalism? Color? Glam? Hell yeah! Sign me up! My makeup time is my absolute favorite part of every single day. On days when I go into my business to work, I allow myself an hour to do soft glam. On days when I work from home (or pretend to be working from home, which is okay because I'm the owner), I give myself as much time to play with makeup as I want because it's what brings me joy. And there have literally been dozens of time when I see your look or your tutorial and I whip out my collections of brushes and products to try to duplicate on myself. I'll even confess to occasionally washing off what I've already done on myself to try out something you've presented just to see how it looks on me. Those days instantly brighten my mood and pull me out of the doldrums of stress.

I, too, grew up quite sure that the sun was only at the beach. I laughed so hard. ❤

Yes to playing around!
I feel so sad for younger folks who grew up online. The joy of just playing around and experimenting is now an anxiety-riddled performance, even if you're all alone in your bathroom. You can't unhear the mean girls and bros.

Yes Alex, please do a follow-up with Gabbi.
* I don’t play with makeup every day, but I usually experiment every few weeks on Sunday by trying out new techniques on a clean face. Typically, I watch tutorials after work and apply new eye, cheek, and lip techniques or colors over my existing makeup, removing and reapplying lipstick as needed.*

3:08 I love your clarification because as an alt girl I deliberately and intentionally fill my eyebrows with the black shade and make them as sharp and crisp as possible with four different products. I've tried dark brown and doesn't like it as much. But of course, it's not something I would recommend if one wants a softer look.

I admit, I'm not the type to experiment with color—I'm a boring neutrals gal. But I SOOO look forward to your videos because I LOVE how creative you are! Your makeup looks are so fun. You're a true artist!

My favorite time to play with my makeup is at the end of the day. I play with my makeup before bed way more than I actually do it to wear it out. I get to do all the fun things without caring about how I look. I also learn a LOT about what I like on me for when I do actually go out lol.

Yes, maximalism is coming back. I’ve noticed it too. And I’ve felt compelled by recent world events & societal pressures to wear makeup thats more loud. I feel a need to express myself more… aggressively lol 😂

That's such a lovely idea.... Just play, like a kid, and really enjoy make-up. No pressure, no consequences, just experimentation and joy. Lovely. Great advice ☺

I never stopped being a maximalist so I am SO here for it to come back. This look is absolutely gorgeous!
