Hi, I'm Jeremy Vassar. I've been painting homes for over 20 years, and I want to help you with your painting projects. My brother Josh and I work together to make painting easy for DIYers and homeowners like you.

I've painted everything—from small rooms to entire houses—and I've tested tons of different products. On this channel, I'll show you all my tips, tricks, and honest reviews.

I know anyone can say anything online, so here’s my story to help you see what I can do.

Jeremy Vassar's Painting Journey
Age 15-21: I started painting schools in the summers with my brother Josh. This is where I learned the basics.
Age 21: I graduated from Temple University and started painting full-time with Josh.
Age 21-27: I worked up to 60 hours a week, painting high-end homes and a large retirement community—up to 60 units a year.
Age 24: Josh and I became co-owners of Handyworks Painting LLC, making our painting business official.
Age 24 (also): We started working with Danken, a company that does kitchens and baths. We still work with them today.
Age 25: We began working with Gemmi Construction, a high-end company. We still work with them too.
Age 28: I learned how to stain wood like newel posts, handrails, and steps
Age 28-38: I kept getting better, learned to work faster, and delivered even better results. We were also able to charge more for our work because of the quality.
Age 34: I started this YouTube channel to help DIYers and homeowners with painting projects.
Age 38: I launched "Paint Your Home Now," a community to help people paint their homes quickly and easily.

How many rooms I've painted (Best Guesses):
Bedrooms: 2,000+
Bathrooms: 1,000+
Kitchens: 300+
Exteriors (partial and complete): 300+
Family Rooms, Living Rooms, Foyers, Hallways: 2,000+
Closets: 3,000+
Wallpaper Removed from Rooms: 100+

I hope I can help you make your home look amazing with paint!

I work for a company that sells BM products and this video really helped me understand them. Thank you!

Used the Advance for the kitchen repainting, after two coats of their top level primer- allowed serious dry time between each coat, two coats of Advance and the results are perfect. Looks incredible/ friends were speechless. Allow enough “ curing time” and you’ll be satisfied.

I do interior paint work on the side occasionally. Benjamin Moore makes two different eggshell sheens in the Ultra Spec 500 line: Low sheen eggshell and eggshell. The low sheen eggshell looks fantastic.

Aura matte has always worked well for me! Skip the Aura Spa & Bath and go with Scuff-X in your wet areas. Scuff-X is my favorite on trim. The Dead Flat often makes up for the high price by only requiring 1 coat for coverage. I always add 1 cup of BM extender per gallon to the Dead Flat to improve application.

I asked one of the guys at my local Ben Moore store about Scuff X and he really likes it. He said he painted his garage interior with it, and a year later it still looks brand new.

Scuff x on trim is amazing, just go down one sheen from what you are looking for. I also agree on the new regal formula it has problems. I'm searching for a new paint to use now....

As you discussed the candle wax effect on the select eggshell, With most paints - either roll with wet cut or dry, but not half dry

Always let your cut-ins dry before rolling! When the cut-ins are still wet but starting to dry and you start rolling it will make the cut-in lines almost like a gummy consistency and that’s why when you start to roll into the cut-ins it starts to sag

Thanks for this video. I had the sagging issue with BM but until this video did not know it was common with this product. Thanks so much

Yeah similar experience with Aura Bath, the rest of the house interior I did with regular Ben and it looks AMAZING and went on so smooth. Aura was SUCH A PAIN, it didn't cover well, didn't adhere well even on a prepped surface. And it cost twice as much, basically $100 a gallon. Oof. I wanted a flat paint in the bathroom and it looks great but it was such a pain to get there.

Do you have a strong preference between Regal and Ultra Spec for exterior? I’m considering Regal (low luster/soft gloss) or Ultra Spec (satin) in Chantilly Lace for my exterior brick. The brick is currently painted a dark khaki color, so I anticipate two coats of primer.

I just bought some Regal Select in satin/ pearl in the new formulation, and it was more like semi-gloss. We had previously painted with the old formulation, and there was a clear distinction between the two when next to each other on the same wall.

I agree with you. I went for Aura eggshell thinking that might be best. It’s so difficult to work with, creates patches. When I try to get rid of one patch, creates another. Never ending work.

Getting ready to paint interior doors and trim in Super White in a semi-gloss. I am a bit concerned about using Advance if it yellows so wondering if Aura or some other paint would be better for this very white color? FYI - the doors are being sprayed and trim will be done by hand....

I would be interested in seeing a review of Benjamin Moore's Command paint for trim and door applications.

Not sure what nap roller you were using for the waterborne ceiling paint, but I've used it for years and have had no problems w/ splattering. In fact, I find just the opposite. I can almost roll it w/out any drops. I use the top line Wooster 3/8 nap roller

So here is a question. If I spray BM advance to a vertical kitchen cabinet door then there is more chance of sagging. On the other hand because of the extended drying time if it’s laid flat, horizontal then it’s prone to picking up dust particles. I am a very experienced sprayer from the motor trade, many years ago when the product was cellulose so understood drying times and vertical verses horizontal but wondering with this product what is the lesser of the 2 evils according to the experience of any users. Thanks

Regal Select eggshell is my go to. My store switched formulations mid-job, but I didn't notice other than the color of the can. Waiting for the cut-ins to dry is a great tip.

i have a problem with mold spots forming on the ceiling above the bathtub. I just primed the ceiling with ZINSSER MOLD KILLING PRIMER. I was about to run out and purchase a gallon of AURA BATH & SPA. Now, after watching this vid, I am thinking it is not my holy grail. What BETTER alternative paint should I consider for a ceiling in a high humidity environment? Thanks!
