I have the 991A and it's hands down the best (currently) shack in the box available. I highly recommend it.

I wanted to say thank you. I just passed my technician and general exams on the 1/13/2024 with the help of the live streams you have made available. Thank you very much!

I have the FTDX10 and it's a great radio. I'd definitely put it at the top of the list, I agree. Good run down of available models overall.

This was a great video. Having had experience with most of these rigs, you nailed this one. Good job!.
Please tell your friends at the manufacturers that what we actually need in 2024, is small, all mode, all band mobiles and new QRP portable radios.
We do not need any more new 2/70 only radios... !!!! 73

My wife and I are new to Ham Radio. We recently bought two HF radios (a Yaesu FTDX10 and a Xiegu G90) and required gear. We will use the radios at home as base stations, as well as at field days and at monthly POTA activations and car camping trips. For the portable applications, we want to be able to safely transport our radio gear from home to the locations. We are considering two alternative case strategies and want your opinion/recommendation:

Alternative 1: Store the radios and gear in Harbor Freight 4800 and 5800 Apache cases during transportation, and we will pull them out of the cases and put them on a picnic table or truck tailgate when at POTA or camping location, and on a desk when at home.

Alternative 2: Mount them in 4U or 6U Gator Cases and put the whole case on the picnic table, tailgate, or desk and leave them in the gator case during use.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

I did months of research coming back into the radio family having done it for UK and US back in the 80s and 90s. For me the ftdx3000 was best value. But the 991A was just the best in my price bracket. I mean, come on an ex military radio guy actually having to pay for his radio? LOL. Love Yaesu kit. Funnily enough now starting to learn Japanese

I can vouch for the Yaesu FT710. It wasn't available when I bought my FT891, or I would have went with the FT710 field. My advice is to skip the AESS, a $20 extension speaker will give better sound.

Bang for the buck, the G90 rules. Yesterday I worked a JA station from Idaho with 10 watts on battery power, into a home-brew 25.5' Rybakov vertical. We were both astonished. I also own a Yaesu FTDX10 which is an incredible transceiver, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying what the the Xiegu has to offer.

For all the reasons you said about the DX10 is the reason I purchased that radio. Now for POTA I am torn between the 891 and 710 and leaning toward the 710 simply because I do not have to haul the radio far in any of the parks I activate and often simply operate either from my truck's cab or tailgate. Also there is almost know learning curve with the 710 from the DX10.

Heck, I bought the 7300 and the DX10 at the same time. I love them both. I will say that I find myself using the DX10 more often.

Great line-up that mirrored my recent decision to get the FTDX-10. Once I narrowed things down to radios over $800 the FTDX-10 (to me) because a no-brainer choice. Greate rig!

that great. still using my IC 7300 and my backup IC 735 . I have used the IC 705 and love it. may get one. but what I am waiting is for is what Kenwood going to put out for a base 100/200 watt HF + 6M radio. Kenwood has a great history of great radios . 73's

I have a premonition that Yaesu will be announcing the replacement to the FT818 sometime this year. It could be the IC-705 killer….

i looked at all these radios a few weeks ago and went with the best 7300. best radio ever :) all great radios but the price of the 7300 with the bigger screen and 4m and 6m was a winner for me

I am fortunate enough to own both the 7300 and 991A and I much prefer operating the 7300. But the value of having a shack-in-a box is undeniable.

Great list Jason, a few made my wishlist, like the Yaesu FT-991A. Wallet says no. Besides I'd need to get very very creative to hide any antenna at the apartment (yes of course I could get it figured out). HF to 6M is the way to go here, 2M 70cm pretty quiet sadly.

I know you do not like the 7100, but now that I have used a lot more HF radios, I want to say again, that head unit on the 7100 is genius. And, it mounts easy in autos, Plus the big letters/numbers, are super easy to see.
