Homemade Hummus with Ground Beef and Tortilla Chips

Ingredients

For the Hummus

2 cups chickpeas (canned or cooked) (*if you use canned chickpeas, peel the skin)
1 medium garlic clove
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup good quality tahini
1/2 tsp cumin, salt
6-8 tbsp iced water (you can add more if needed, see the recipe)
2 tbsp olive oil

For the Ground Beef Topping:
2-3 tbsp olive oil
1/2 pound ground beef
1 small garlic glove
1 tsp pepper paste
1 tsp tomato paste
Salt, Black pepper
Paprika

For the Chips:

6-8 corn tortillas
Salt

Instructions

Place chickpeas and garlic in a food processor and blend them until it becomes a stiff paste.

Add lemon juice, tahini, cumin, and salt and continue to process it. Finally, add iced water and olive oil and blend them until smooth and creamy.

You can also make the hummus using the traditional way without a food processer as shown in the Video :)

Preparing the Ground Beef Topping:

Heat the olive oil in a medium pan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and garlic, and brown it for 4-5 min while smashing the mixture using a wooden spoon.

Add tomato and pepper paste, salt, pepper, and paprika, and cook until lightly browned for 5-7 min.

Preparing the Tortilla Chips:

Cut the tortillas into 4 or 6 triangle-shaped wedges.

In a medium pot, heat oil over medium heat, place the tortilla pieces into the hot oil and fry them for 2-3 min until crispy and lightly brown. Transfer them onto a paper towel and season with salt. (Alternatively, you can bake the tortillas in the oven.)

The Assembly:

Place the hummus on a serving platter, and use the back of a spoon to create waves on top. Top with ground beef, sesame seeds, sumac, and parsley.

Serve with crispy corn tortilla chips.

This looks really good. It's pretty amazing how a lot of people's food is so alike. I'm Mexican & I liken this to eating tortillas with beans. We can fry our Tortillas and also make many things with them too. ❤❤

I love hummus, but have never made bread except for banana bread. I make my own hummus often, but use a blender because prefer it super smooth, thanks to my favorite local Persian restaurant. My sister-in-law is Arab Palestinian and never makes it at home. 😄
