Jiu Jitsu Saved My Life but Destroyed My Body - Response (Men Don't Do This!) #bjj #jiujitsu #mentalhealth
---
Toda I am responding to "Jiu Jitsu Saved My Life but Destroyed My Body" by Dorian Develops where he discusses all of his injuries related to BJJ and tries to rationalize why it was actually worth the injuries.

I am also indirectly responding to Chewjitsu's video "Is Jiu Jitsu worth all the injuries?"

Here's what we can agree on - Jiu Jitsu is NOT Healhty - quite contrary. It is actually VERY unhealthy. No-one trains and remains healthy, everyone is crippled. Like that guy said in that one video "Jiu Jitsu RUINED my life!" is more accurate saying.

So since it is so unhealthy and full of injuries, we need to find out WHY you are actually training and what are your motives behind training. What are you actually trying to prove to yourself?

Once you do that and see that and realize that BJJ will NOT help you fix your inner issues, you can easily quit bjj and escape the flywheel of hell and start working on what you need to work on.

Today I discuss that in this video.

Do you train BJJ? Have you trained it in the past? What do you think about this topic? (Share below)

the funny thing about joe rogan is that he's trying to place himself as a "a sound voice of ultimate male self-convidence and calmness" i.e using certain techniques and expressions in discussion while in the same time he's screaming concealed anger and insecurity. and maybe that's nothing strange that he tries to show himself like that, since it's beneficial for him, but the strange thing is internet is buying his narration (and people like him, which are often his guests).

Good vid. My cents to avoid injury,

dont ever train takedowns as or with white belts unless they are supervised by instructor and done as drills. No takedowns during free sparring until blue belt level. Just sit your ass down.

Crosstrain in judo/aikido to learn how to break fall, perform safe takedowns. 1 year ish is enough, maybe 2 if you are slower to learn.

As you get older, train no gi. The amount of stress on finger joints, hand tears, sprains and other shit that happens when grip fighting/breaking with gi is avoided.

Dont let ppl do heel hooks, leg locks and other dangerous techniques during sparring on you until you have practiced them yourself and somebody explained tp u what can happen. Have boundaries.

tap often and prioritize positional sparring. If somebody puts you in a tight body triangle and starts RNC just tap and reset.

If you dont know how to get out from the position dont go fight it 100% with all strenght. Tap and Ask for tips. If they dont wanna give you some tips, gravitate toward the ppl that are willing to teach instead of just smash.

Finally, avoid competitions. If you really wanna go, wait until blue belt.

Maybe most important tip, roll with ppl your own size. Always look actively for people that are youe same size, befriend them and try to mostly roll with them.

He is right unfortunately. Great sport but with attacking the joints there's going to be a price to pay whether now or in years to come but it will happen.

You know what's crazy is I trained from 8 years old to 18 and at 18 I told my family i no longer wanted to train because I wanted to go to college and I only started because my family threw me in the gym. I dont have any injuries but I think I escaped that when i made the decision to quit at 18.
Also, i went to that guys videos and i checked the comments and so many peiple have injuries! I guess we dont talk about the dark side of BJJ

We are all different. BJJ will effect us all differently and at different stages of our journey. Ive benefited differently every year i do jiujitsu and have different mentalities. Now im having chiropractic adjustments, eating clean and have discovered macebell training. Im focused on my return to the mats and adjusting my life accordingly. It gives me purpose and drive.... it keeps No1 in tip top shape and mentally clear. Why have it any other way. If youre injured, take time out and heal. Every time you get out if the bed its a risk.... BJJ its worth the risk. The feelings that it brings are profound.... emptying the cortisol stress tank, feeling elated, using your body and mind in unison to solve the problem that is your opponent. It should be all about and No1 should be the only person you want to be better than (the yesterday version). Leave your ego at the door and just train.
