I was checking on my Dad's cows one day, and found them very agitated. A quick count revealed a missing calf. I drove the fence line, and found a gap in a corner. A quick search in the thicket just beyond it, and I found the calf sleeping in the shade. I scooped up the week old baby, returned her to the field, and got busy fixing the corner so _Miss Houdini_ couldn't get out again.
As I worked, her momma came over and nuzzled me, just thanking me for finding and returning her calf to the herd. Dad's cows were so tame, you could pet them like a dog!

They would all come running to him to get a pet job every time he came near their pasture.

This is very relatable. When a calf rubs its neck and head on your leg like that, it's a show of affection and makes their mothers very, very jealous or extremely grateful.

What a sweet calf! I was surprised when I learned as a kid that some cows can be just like dogs. My neighbor had about 5 adult cows and we always greeted each other at the fence. They were so glad to see me every morning because I fed them fruit and petted them.

It is truly amazing that a cow has the intelligence, rationality and patience to understand that after checking up on her calf that the man is no threat and let's him to continue to pet her calf. A lot of other farm animals don't think that way and automatically would've immediately attacked him had he would've got too close towards the calf in the first place.
