Cat gradually ascending beyond this mortal realm

That was just a stylistic preference that brought him comfort because of the schizophrenia that he had. His final drawing (1924) before he died (1939) after being transferred from a mental asylum to the Bethlem Royal Hospital was a normal sketch of a grinning white cat with the caption "I am happy because everyone loves me."
Edit: It was very hard for people with mental disorders during this time to be freed from asylums, so the context makes sense! He made it out with the help of his friends and family.

"Do humans still portray
us as ancient deities?"
"Yes, they still do."
"Good."

Cat went from a normal cat, to a pokemon, to a kaleidoscope real quick.

His style of drawing cats wasn't because of his schizophrenia, he just liked drawing cats that way

This was genuinely beautiful and disturbing at the same time.

He actually found comfort in these patterns as they calm him down. Just because he was diagnosed with schizophrenia doesn’t mean it was the reason why his drawings were like this

Edit: If I said anything wrong or incorrect here please correct me, thank you <3

The cats looked like they just became more divine.

I knew that this is how this type of decorative drawing began.

That's not schizophrenia That's enlightening. Period.

The schizophrenia didn’t make him draw like that. He just got more interested in abstract shapes, and he still liked cats, so he incorporated the abstract shapes to his drawings of cats. The best of both worlds

Thats not a cat, thats an multiversal being, but Louis still wanted to draw him.

Schizophrenia is really scary. My late Uncle suffered immensely from it. Slipping in and out of reality, seeing demons materialize before you. Nobody can understand you when you try to describe them. It must have been very lonely. May God watch over him. He was loved.

Guys this isn’t true. His last drawing was of a happy looking cat without any patterns on it at all, with the text “I am happy because everyone loves me” written below it.
I don’t think we should turn this into a whole “Oohhhh look what the mental illness did to the art” thing, because in Louis Wain’s case, this simply is not true.

He straight up just loved cats and liked patterns.

The fact that they're still abstract masterpieces is nothing short of a miracle. Even as his schizophrenia got worse he continued making absolute art. God bless this man and may he rest in peace
