I love the big mixer, I am à retired heavy equipment operator and I noticed that you are good operators, thanks for teaching us how to make good soil !

Try a medium sharp scissor/shear to cut/zip through plastic - the supplier's should look into alternate ways of packaging these days. Plastics should be a reduced waste/toxic product. Anything helps. The plastic wrapping can be recycled/re-purposed....

gonna have to look into the kelp thanks for the idea

Funny thing there, I remember when everything came in a brown paper bag. Then, the environmentalists said that we were cutting our forest too fast and we needed to switch to plastic. Even though companies like Georgia Pacific treated their tree farms as crops and harvested and planted sustainably. I am old enough to remember global freezing, cooling, ozone, and acid rain, "the earth has a fever, " and now clomate change. I agree on the plastic. We use it too much. I guess you need to follow the money. Guess I had to vent a little. 👍👍

Your customers are lucky to have folks like you around to do this kind of hard work. The soil mix looks like a good one.

Canadian peat moss is highly regulated and as sustainably harvested as it can get. Canada has tons of peat bogs and only a tiny fraction is harvested.

Wearing a mask/ respirator mixing perlite in particular, but good with the rest of amendments as well, is a good idea. If you get tired of looking at & messing with perlite, rice hulls do the same thing w/o the dust, & provide silicon as well.

I just adore the enthusiasm you have for what you do. creating things, functional thing out of raw material is awesome. The topsoil is extra awesome because of the many potential plants that will grow in it, and the benefit those have for people!

Buy another live log deck to use as a greenchain!!! Then hade can edge on end of it !!!you need 20’ between decks. Pile lumber between the live decks and on there side of greenchain !!! Install 2’ lumber stops on the end. The greenchain can hold an hr of sawing! Easy.

It's just amazing how informed you are about the hazards of pesticides and toxins in our soils Emerald! I love that y'all are making such gloriously natural potting soil. Haha and yes I hate that everything comes in plastic as well and try and keep reusing plastic wraps and bags as much as I can 😄

So, just FYI, perlite is used for drainage, not water retention. Also for aeration.
Vermiculite is for water retention...
Now, the Kelp is a great idea....

Making anything from scratch takes a lot of this and that, and a lot of stirring!
