I went down a RABBIT HOLE 🐰 researching BUFFERING COCONUT COIR because so many people on my Yoútube told me that my soil mix needed to be buffered before use. I Iinked pre-buffered coconut coir on my storefront, but if you don’t buy pre-buffered coconut coir, here’s what I learned:

-Coconut Coir naturally has high levels of salt that over time can interfere with nutrient uptake
-By “buffering” it with a solution like CalMag, you’re stabilizing the PH and salt levels in the coir.

So now I guess I have one more thing to add to my watering recipe, which honestly isn’t a big deal, but it’s wild how I have more plant care supplies than self care supplies for myself 🫠

Who else has never ending chores? 🙋🏻‍♀️

I have the same plant in my living room. It’s standing next to a large window. It gets water once a week and fertiliser once a month… it’s been thriving this way for over three years now

Newbie here, birds of paradise is such a beautiful plant. But im learning with my leafy babies that they do require a lot of maintenance and they're indoor plants. Yes they dont need to be watered often, not tons of light, etc. BUT cleaning the leafs can be a hassle. I currently have 6 fiddles and I love my babies. But oh boy do i get tired cleaning them. What i just started doing with those is shower them every week and a half. And i guess they like it cuz they're growing babies.

I have a huge BOP that I brought in now for fall and winter. They are very thirsty plants. I stopped bringing to the shower to water since it’s way too big for doorways. It get a top water a few times a week since it’s outgrowing its pot

My rule is if a plant needs fancier care than me, it’s not the plant for me lol. I get mine used to tap water cause I don’t want them turning too picky on me 😅

stress coat is not the same thing as water conditioner. You can dechlorinate with regular water conditioner and its quite a bit cheaper! Stress coat helps fish build a layer of protective slime around themselves when they are injured. Also please don't take this as me saying you're doing anything wrong! Just a little info from someone who loves aquariums AND plants (:

My mom had two massive snake plants in our sunroom growing up. It started as one but she had to split them into two pots each were like 50 pounds. They were so heavy she had them on wheels because that was the only way her 5’ self could really move them.
maybe have them on small dollies with locking wheels if you don’t hate the look too much? Your bird of paradise is beautiful and worth it 🌿

Here in far south Texas, we just put the Bird of Paradise plant outside and let it fend for itself. Planted in the ground, it’s actually pretty hard to kill.
It can’t stand a lot of freezing weather, though, so I don’t know how far north you can have them free-range like that.

I know you may have mentioned this before, but how long does it take to fully saturate large plants, and how long do you wait between waterings? I use regular potting mix, and I notice the soil stays moist for a long time before drying up and then caking up.

Hi, where do you buy all the stuff for these leaves 🍃? I would love to know ♥️ thanks

Fyi you may wanna use fabric to tie off any plants. String of any kind will cut into it. I use gauze wrap cut to length and then cut thinner and roll to make a soft fluffy "rope".

Why do you buffer the water? Is your tap water acid?

If I had to put that much work, energy into any plant I don't want it. Plants are to be enjoyed not stressing over. I've been talking care of plants longer than you have been alive and I never done all of that and I have beautiful, healthy plants . Life is ticking fast . Water those plants, give them light, love and Enjoy your life because tomorrow ain't promised to anyone. Peace to you😊😊😊

I have aquariums & use that water for my plants, but when I'm lazy, I just declorinate it. Helps keep my leaves green!

What is the clear stuff you’re referencing? String?

Ohmygod!! 🤣🤣🤣 is this an addiction? Either plant it outside or just take it outside with the pot and forget about it!!! That’s what I did with my plants. Since then they are happy LOL and I am happy too not spending so much time on worrying about them!
