Komitas Vardapet is considered to be the founder of modern Armenian classical music. His great merit is that he based himself extensively on the folk music of his native country, which he carefully documented. Naturally, the influence of folk music also plays a major role in his work. For example, Garun a ( It’s spring ) is a profound dramatic composition based on folk music. The theme of the song is the tragedy of an abondant girl. Here nature and the realm of personal feelings go in parallel like two identical worlds : in spring, when everything must blossom, it suddenly starts snowing, and the girl, whose love just blossomed, is abandoned by her beloved.
