This reminds me of the Greek story about psyche. She married Eros(god of desire) after Aphrodite told him to punish her for being beautiful. When Aphrodite found out she made Psyche do impossible tasks so she could see Eros again, Hera and Demeter were like the white lion because they would show up and help her.
