I was an early adopter of the SSL UF8+UC1 and I'm so happy to see how far it's been coming and that SSL has been listening to customers. Many people on forums would cite how such and such was not possible due to the mackie protocol, that's just the way it is, but I knew the tech is there and that SSL built something that could grow into something beyond that protocol and into the future. The link is just awesome, and the fact they are bringing color coding to match track colors for me personally is huge. The CC control is a fantastic added benefit too, as is the fact I heard they recently opened up a way to map knobs to third-party plugins now. It's getting closer and closer – one of the few outstanding things I wish for them to update, since those LCD screens are more than capable, would be a better readout of complete track names. For those of us with large sessions, truncated abbreviated names are still hard to understand when looking down. 360 Link fits more letters than Mackie HUI but even still - the screen is sharp enough to do more than that. And maybe even track icons could be pulled from Cubase or any DAW to even more quickly ID track type!

Hey Dom, FWIW, I've had really good luck going in and programming keystrokes on the UF8 to control the automation buttons, as well as setting up easy mixer configurations, etc. Takes a little time to create the keystrokes that don't double others in Cubase, but once that's accomplished, it sure makes the UF8 a wonderful piece!

Definitely with you on the still much needed improvements on the UF8 - I also had set it up to be a CC controller for my instruments only to realise my automations were not being recorded...

I needed the Midi clarification, thank you and we still can use the faders to record the data just via automation lane; instead of, CC lane if I understood correctly. I still want them to make copying and pasting available for the pages within 360 app to make it easier to update presets; otherwise, I really don't know what else they can add to it that would help me significantly. Also, Track types filtering works stock for Cubase UF8 if choose "Fine" and the "Send/Plugin" number buttons which will choose a different track type like audio, groups, effects etc.

It’s crazy how these products are released to the market not fully functional. I’ve had mine for over a year and haven’t used it as much as I would have liked. This update is promising though. Thanks for highlighting this!

SSL has to produce some serious DAW controller in order for us to be able to handle big projects with so many channels. Controllers with extensions in order to have a big desk with many channels to control without hands on mouse and keyboard.
iCon tried to produce some controllers but I have read the worst reviews on all of their products. So I decided to go for the Mackie Universal Pro with the 2 extensions for a 24 channel mixing desk.

By the time I lift up my arm from my arm rest, turn to the side, and push faders on this, I could I have clicked a few times in Cubase lol. I guess I’m not a hardware kind of guy. Mad respect for SSL though, I love 360! This would look cool in my studio I have to admit.

So a Cubase user Bijouc has been building a Mackie Control compatible midi remote that fixes the track follow issues, allows for track colors, and other nifty features.

The ONLYS thing it’s missing is fader groups, which I personally need, but is currently not suppprted by the midi remote API.

So for now we have to choose - follow selected track with no fader groups, or fader groups but you need to bank around like a maniac.

Why an earth don't they just integrate via the new MIDI Remote API? There would be no character restrictions, or other MCU antiquated limitations to contend with, and it would allow users to add full page mappings if they wanted it (i.e. faders and rotaries to control a VST Synth for example).

Users are doing it in their spare time for hardware with faders and screen feedback, so SSL should have no problem in doing it.

Secondly, I hate having to add additional plugins or wrappers into my projects just for the sake of a controller. Had it with Novation Automap, had it with Komplete Kontrol, and all have caused me problems, So would be a no go for me.

I really hope that the Nektar CS12 comes through with a native Cubase mapping as it could be a killer controller for Cubase.

I wanted to buy the UF8, but I heard it has problems with bank changes, so I purchased 3 XTouches, and I am very Happy very underrated. They are not UF8s.

Great video man. I have the uf8 and my situation is the same. I am a game and movie composer and was excited with this update but I lost it when I realize I couldn’t record my automations. I’ve reached to ssl which I had one reply, and that was it. Never replied back. Awful support which is quite sad because the hardware is solid but software sucks. And support, the same…

@DomSigalas Great video! I see that sometimes the UF8 or the Console-1 are not on your desk. Do you simply plug them when needed? Also, in that case, how do you deal with the usb cables and power supply? I am still trying to find a way for me to be able to "switch on demand" without the cable mess... what a headache!
