Mastering with Elektron’s Analog Heat

In this video I explore using an Elektron Analog Heat MKII as a mastering device. Utilising Elektron’s Overbridge software, I demonstrate how you can insert an instance of Analog Heat as a plug in at the front of a processing chain. The AH can provide some gritty attitude or used more subtly as an enhancer. Effective mastering can often benefit from a less is more approach and the Analog Heat allows for careful gain staging so that its effect is carefully applied and subtle. However if you want a more extreme approach, there is plenty of options here. This hardware unit is fabulous for making a lacklustre track sparkle and kick ass. I use it in conjunction with Izotope's industry standard Ozone which handles the heavy lifting of the mastering process allowing the Analog heat to give the song character.

just wanted to add, that it also does a fine bus like compression as well ..

I use these settings:
envelope follower in followe mode
destination set to wet level,
depth to -10
attack 25
release 35
input gain 20
trigger level 100

wet level 127
DryIwet 63

I was thinking the same thing myself about the Analog Heat; something that would be loved by the master channel. 😍😍

very nicely demonstrated. Also did not know that the EQ-curves change with each saturation-mode. Very cool. Will definetely get the Heat sooner or later. Thank you.

I was reading and thinking a lot about the Heat. This demonstration finally made me buy it! Just great, both the Heat and this video!

Hey Gaz - really inspired by this potential. I have a Heat and have been driving synths and drums machines through it - much fun!

I think it's a great asset for a small scale studio, where spicing up mostly in-the-box productions is a must. Would love an additional make-up gain knob, and from what I hear, a bit more headroom BUT I think it's a really great tool!

Wanted to add one more comment thanking for the clever recommendation on such a budget option for the discerning bedroom producer. Toward the end, even on my phone, the eq brought that Rickenbacker to life!! (I would bet anything it's a ric!)
Anyway thanks for the brilliant idea!
