The Washington Post is reporting that Kevin McCarthy may have a secret deal with some far-right republicans, and that deal would force some big changes on what payments the Treasury Department makes. The report comes just as Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warns that the U.S. will hit the debt ceiling by Thursday.

How about we prioritize paying our debts over congressional salaries and perks?

So you're telling us that the party of "fiscal responsibility" doesn't understand fiscal responsibility?
Color me shocked.

A whole bunch of 1/6 traïtors never got what they deserved, removal from office being the most lenient of those punishments. This is going to keep spiraling out of control all because we didn't get mad enough when they decided to let traïtors go unpunished.

They have been told by other republicans this won't work. Insanity.

Comparing the press conferences between the two new
house leaders is like night and day. First off Jeffries
listens carefully and then comes across clear and
competent in his answers. McCarthy on the other hand
stumbles about and his whole demeanour conveys an
abysmal lack of confidence and assuredness.

No matter how sordid their maneuvers are, no matter how much destruction they do, they'll blame Democrats for it all. We need to play hardball with them; keep the pressure on, call them out on EVERYTHING.

Economists and business leaders are voicing concerns at the start of 2023 that the year could be a difficult one. JPMorgan Chase & Co. Chief Executive Jamie Dimon said Tuesday that the Federal Reserve may need to raise interest rates to 6% to fight inflation, higher than the peak level between 5% and 5.5% in 2023 that most Fed officials penciled in after their December meeting. Although I read an article of people that grossed profits up to $500k during this crash, what are the best stocks to buy/short now or put on a watchlist.

They literally told us this is their plan. God help us

The only thing the GOP considers is always related to something devious. There are plans and there are conspiracies, depends which way you are leaning towards. The GOP tends to lean towards helping the favored few, while disregarding the majority.

If corporations and rich people paid their fair share of taxes I would guess that no loans or selling of bonds would be necessary

If the debt ceiling isn't raised & the US can't pay all it's bills, paying Congressmen - paychecks, perks, retirement, funds to staff all their offices, should all be put at the bottom of the list - only pay them after the other bills are paid.

Let the GOP tear itself apart, they're already making the 2024 democratic victory even easier.

We do need to do something about the debt, but to accomplish that you need reasonable, decent people willing to work together for the good of the entire country, rather than just driving off a cliff.

The Rs will hold this basic event hostage as long as Trump tells them to. He recently said the government defaulting was a good thing for the Rs and for the country. Sadly, there are a surprising numbers of Rs not educated well enough in the debt to understand listening to a chump who likes declaring bankruptcy is a stupid idea

Transparency is key here. Brinksmanship over the debt ceiling without transparency is immoral and highly risky.

Give Republicans the keys to the car and they immediately drive it off the cliff. Told ya so...over and over again. Reps working to elect the Dems in 2024...well done. 🤭
