Furina’s backstory is sad and one of the saddest, but it was portrayed much sadder than the other genshin backstories thats probably why people like her so much. Her backstory has songs, cutscenes, sad dialogues, tear drop elements, great voice acting, emotional characters, etc. All in all if you summarized it like “Oh shes a human who pretended to be a god for 500 years.” It wouldn’t sound sad, but with all these elements added, it makes it much more emotional. I mean you could say faruzan also suffered loneliness for 100 years in that puzzle, but her backstory isn’t emotional.

For what we know now, furina, but i feel like paimon’s backstory will be very tragic too.
I have a theory that paimon is from celestia, and she was perhaps the original ruler of celestia until unknown god defeated her and she shrunk into some child form and fell into the lake in mondstadt. But i expect her lore to be more complicated

1 because we don’t know her backstory yet but it’s odd how she’s so cheerful but has abandonment issues. In truth, Paimon could have the saddest backstory and we wouldn’t know until it’s too late.
However, all the genshin characters backstory (at least that we know of) is sad or could be sad.
