Please give The Wicked a chance some time soon. The writing is fantastic (Nicholas was a poet) and the plot is very well done. It focuses on 4 characters trying to travel in the winter as they are hunted by a beast (won’t say what it might spoil). It’s a fast read, and there are 4 books. The 4th was written just before he died.

In the Woods is the first book by Tana French. I remember it being good, but not sure why I didn’t pick up the second.

I'm watching this on my phone while I art, but I had to come over and comment because I always have things to say. 1: I feel like you will love Hound of the Baskervilles. It's one of my all time favorite stories, and very gothic. 2: Annihilation (the Southern Reach) is INSANE, and very good. It's Sci-fi/horror with a strong cthulu-esque vibe. I listened to it on audiobook and it was very much my thing, but it's also "weird fiction" to an extreme. Also, a bit slow at places because it's so psychological. Even if it doesn't seem like your thing, I highly suggest you at least watch the movie. Incredible soundtrack, heart pounding, nothing like the book and yet perfectly like it. Someday I need to read the rest of the series but I do highly recommend it. Just be aware that it's trippy.

I adore Discworld! Maskerade is a parody of Phantom of the Opera, and Wyrd Sisters has a lot of Shakespeare elements.
I think you'll like Shadow of the Wind, but to this day it's one of the most boring and telenovela like books I've read. It does have nice writing though.
