I had a car that had no service record book. The mechanic who changed the timing belt for me wrote on the engine cover the date and mileage it was done so I didn't have to rely on memory.

I do this also when doing maintenance on my hubby’s fleet. Quart amount and socket size. I have my phone full of filter part numbers and oil weights too. I’ve even written down the oil plug size. Our Ford f’kn Ranger requires me to remove the oil filter left handed. All this info saves me hassle.

I did better than that. I used a paint roller pen and listed the oil specs and the exact number of quarts needed for an oil chain.
It keeps morons from overfill or using the wrong oil.
