Puss encounters Death again and a fierce duel erupts between the two. However, Death begrudgingly decides to spare Puss after the latter boldly stands up to him but remarks that "they will meet again" before departing.

This was one of the best final battles I’ve ever seen in an animated film. It was the ultimate decision if Puss wanted to continue wishing for more lives or if he wanted to keep living his one life

So many people here think that Puss is a god just because he can keep up with Death, and they absolutely wrong.

The wolf is the embodiment of Death itself and the only reason he lost that fight was because he's holding back. And the golden rule of almost every movie is that "PROTAGONISTS ALWAYS WIN, NO MATTER THE CONSEQUENCES", but it doesn't means they're stronger than their counterpart.

Puss even admitted he can never defeat Death who manifested as a wolf, but he won this round because Death spared him to live his last life to the fullest. They will meet again, and Puss knows what the outcome will be. At the end, no one can escape Death
