That last point you made - " Being alone shouldn't make you lonely. It is not solitude that breeds loneliness but a lack of understanding about oneself". I totally agree with it. And its so true isn't it ? Because the best and the most enduring kind of happiness can only be found when one is at total peace with oneself.

Hi Jisoo! I'm a Sophomore at Columbia and I definitly relate to the spending a lot of time alone part! I commend you for taking the time to go out and explore the city alone! It's a big and scary place by yourself so I would often just stay around campus since I was nervous going alone. I love your point about loneliness! Other than the fact I'm an only child raised by WAY OLDER parents (so not relatable to them), I spent about 3 weeks last year in Europe, alone! I also touristed NYC alone as well. We depend on no one to be happy, we can explore alone and be happy alone

Near Barnes at USQ you can also find the Chat & Chew Restaurant, an NYU fave. I think it's on 16 st. BTW. 5 av/ University place and is good for inexpensive eats and prolonged study late into the night.❤ Good luck in school.😊

i developed severe panic attacks in October 2022. i found hanging out with someone helped reduce the chance of panic attack. but, problem is i could only depend on that person twice. again, i found myself by myself again and learned i would be responsible to dealing with my panic attacks and cannot rely on the presence of another to reduce the likelihood of it occuring. So, in January I restructured my lifestyle with exercise and deep-breathing, knowing if i did not get my panic attacks under control, i would develop agoraphobia and would not leave my house. my classes take attendance & so there was no option to not become stronger and embrace my independence. i guess we are our own heroes. <3 thanks for sharing your story at the end.
