Deicide - Dead by Dawn - Steve Asheim - Isolated Drums

Read a short interview and listen to Steve's cover of "Dust In The Wind" by 'Kansas" here:

Check out more Isolated Drum Tracks here:

Please Note: This is not the actual board sound from the 1989-90 tracking sessions. Steve Asheim was very interested in being part of our new Isolating The Throne series, so he tracked this for all of you last week in his living room. There may be some slight differences from the original recording, but we are very appreciative and honored Steve would take the time to do this for us, and for all of you. Enjoy...

I was their live engineer from 92 to 97. We did not use triggers on the Legion tour of 92, he didn't need them. On the European leg of a 93 tour, we experimented with a D4 a bit. Raymond from Fear Factory taught me how to use it. In 95 I was running a combination of mics and triggers. They really helped out when we hit smaller clubs without two of the same kick drum mics and/or crappy consoles/outboard gear. Steve's feet were faster than the Hoffman brother's picking and used to frustrate them during soundchecks

Steve deserves much more attention than he's got. Dude should be in every "top 10 drummers of all time" lists for real.

I was lucky enough to open a few shows (in Vital Remains) for them back in the day. Man, Steve was phenomenal. Like a machine. So fun to watch. I see a lot of comments about which drummer is faster now. One thing you kids are forgetting is that Steve helped pioneer this style of double-bass long before everyone else. And he pounded when he played unlike all these new metal drummers who barely move a cymbal when they hit it and play with their fingers not their balls. Cheers Steve!

The fact that he tracked this himself for this video is pretty fucking awesome.

One of the reasons i loved deicide growing up was this guy on the kit. Solid and technical drumming for days. Together with the hoffman brothers on guitar and benton on vocals these guys we're the premier death metal band of the 90's.

Steve is a friend of my man’s, he’s a good hearted good natured person, who’s a dedicated performer. You should hear him play the Pie-Anna!

I got to meet Steve a few years back at a show they played at Big's Bar in Sioux Falls, SD-he took the time to take pics with my family-really nice guy and awesome drummer!!!

This guy innovated fast metal drumming. Deicide's Legion album got some criticism back in the day. But I think it was a game changing album for metal.

This is incredibly invaluable for me to hear this raw take with all the slight double kick nuances that show ebb and flow and slight inconsistencies... rather than hearing a quantized, processed to perfection mix that lots of bands release. It can be daunting, so thank you for posting this.

Even though this post is over a year old, Steve is awesome. The fact that you did this for him is awesome. The fact that people still come here to see this is awesome. Before this feather foot trigger bullshit, Steve brought power to Deicide direct. (Yes, I understand triggers in applicable situations). You can just look at the dude for fuck sake and know this guy played his heart out throughout his career. Also, he's a gun enthusiast and a pianist! Much respect for this guy. Played each cymbal as not only an accent, but as it's own piece of orchestration.

The fact that Deicide even came up with this song to begin with, and this drumming on top of that... Simply amazing and so unique. Deserves so much more attention, this is as technical or even more than all the new core-drummers out there

I really appreciate and respect all the guys that are contributing to this new aspect of sick drummer! They have a ton of balls to put out their exposed tracks. Hope to see/hear more of these!

One of the best drummers I have heard. His style impresses me. He is good with his hands on the snare and fast on his feet. Some titles recordings are astonishing. 👍😈👍🔥
