Movies can be art, there are some many wonderful art films out there. Those movies don’t come from Hollywood usually. Some directors might work only from craft, but auteurs are definitely artists.

FINALLY, someone speaking about it. I have a bachelor's degree in arts, and this has remained with me throughout my career in the entertainment industry: "it's not Art. It's some art skills applied to an entertainment product".If it was really Art, we could do everything we want and don't mind about the audience's reaction, or even if someone would like it. Art is not made to be liked always, because it has no function, it's an expression.

An art object can be a movie, but not all movies can be Art... But...
For me, creating entertainment is better than working in a boring cubicle in order to pay the bills.

So sad. That we live in a society when an artist has to compromise his vision to be able to live from his craft...going down the endless pit of pleasing the lowest common taste. I'd rather live from something else, another activity, and do real art on the side even if it doesn't pay much. Until it eventually does.

This guy sounds as though he’s talking about a break up. As he’s telling the story he’s starting to realize how much she meant to him and how much he’s still in love with her. But the pragmatic side of him knows it’s unlikely the relationship will be successful.

I think there might be a misconception about what he is saying here; It's not that your film HAS to have action in it in order to sell, but it has to have engaging content to capture's an audience's attention. Making a drama about two people talking COULD be captivating, but it's extremely difficult to do without the proper execution. The irony is that action has a higher chance of capturing an audience's attention but is less likely to be achieved b/c indie filmmakers usually don't have the budget for it... But if you're a creative / good filmmaker, you can a find a way to captivate an audience no matter your restrictions

I get the feeling collateralised collateral might be important

And that's why Hollywood is succeeding today?

Lost me at the 10th use of the word "collateralize".

Micro budget that looks shitty is a waste of time..I know I've made 5 of them..total bullshit waste of time..and I'm m and advocate of making sure shitty films are removed from all platforms..save the art..just because you think your a filmmaker doesn't mean you are.
