I gotta say, the lips at the beginning of the movie are ICONIC. I had a bumper sticker of them on my car in the 80's and 90's.

A single screen theater about 40 minutes from me has survived solely because of their one a week midnight showing of Rocky Horror people will often come for the show before it as well (Rocky always starts at midnight). The 10 o'clock movie, always a sci fi B movie from before 1975 picked at random from an antique top hat, or at least that's how they did it when I worked there in the 90's. The opening movie played into the 'double feature' mentioned in the Rocky Horror Picture Show theme song, and anyone going to both shows got a discount, but it also meant that theater made the most they could off the weekly double feature and it helped shortens the line of people only coming for Rocky

During the rest of the week, they still only play classic movies. When I worked there it was two daily showings of the same movie Monday-Friday.

I still go to the double feature a couple times a year and volunteer to help clean up afterwards with the live cast and crew when my body agrees. But I haven't paid attention enough to know what had it hasn't changed for the rest.

Their popcorn and sodas are barely marked up over cost, and it's byoc (bring your own candy).

I wanna say the theater is considered a landmark now, which I think means upkeep on the property gets an upfront contribution from the county and the rest is a tax deduction for the business.

Last time I went to the double feature, I heard they want to start having an annual Halloween and Christmas showing of the Nightmare Before Christmas, but don't know if they did. They don't have a website so I'll call them after I post this comment to find out.

You left out the best part, the live showings are audience participation!! I used to go to Rocky Live in the late 90s, the Rialto in Raleigh NC, we had an amazing crowd, 50+ people most nights. Had an underwear run, we brought the props (rice, newspaper), shouted back the audience lines, did the time warp dance, and everyone's first time at Rocky had to line up front for the virgin dance. It was my gateway into the 90s/00s goth scene and clubs.

Good fucking times.

The Rocky Horror is so iconic for so many reasons. Whenever someone expresses distaste in something I really like, still to this day, I can't help saying "Well he wasn't made for YOU!"

I have to admit the first time I saw Rocky Horror Picture Show I thought it was strange. Now more than 40 years since I first saw it, I still think it’s strange, but I like it and appreciate it more!!!😆

Pink Floyd the Wall, Heavy Metal, and Rocky Horror. Midnight movies. That takes me back.

Ahead of its time. Many didn't understand the camp and tongue-in-cheek sophisticated humor😅❤

Tim Curry's vocal performance in this was absolutely stellar and I wish I had more people to show this to.

Tim Curry was so damned iconic in this movie and just let his freak flag fly without any restraint. You can tell he really enjoyed himself playing this role.

Saw it in West Berlin in 78 and was not ready for rice and toast flying through the air or patrons going down front to do the "Time Warp Dance". Pretty freaking amazing to say the least.

Been running continuously in Portland, Oregon even through the pandemic where it played to an empty theater to keep the continuous stream of shows.

Such a FANTASTIC film. This isn’t just a movie, it isn’t even just an experience, it’s a rite of passage. I’m 58, and I’ll NEVER forget the first of my dozens of times my friends and I gathered for the midnight viewings.
I was so proud when my children (now mid and late 30’s) were able to see it in the theatre as well 🥰.
LOVE, love, love Tim Curry ❤️❤️❤️.

In 1978, 79, I played Columbia every Friday and Saturday night in the shadow cast in San Jose. Those were the best times of my life, I met some truly wonderful people at RHPS.

As a senior in High School in 1980, teachers who saw it either loved it or thought it was sinful & it should to removed. Scandalous!!! 😜

For a few years I played as Frank at the midnight show in NYC in the late 90s. The cast was fabulous and it was always sold out. The fun we had!!!! 🤩💋

Yup! Yes! I am happy to say that I'm One of the 1970's crowd who went to the TLA on South Street, Philly! At midnight. Only 16 yrs old. The time of my life. People dressed as the characters and performed on the stage as movie played. People had rolls of toilet paper outfitted same as the characters. So much clean fun. Behaved nicely unlike today's audiences.
Wish, in a ways I could go back in time. Some of my favorite years.❤😊
