Located at a distance of 22 km from Mysore City Center. Many Government and private buses ply often from Mysore City to KRS, KSTDC or KSRTC buses also ply from Bangalore to KRS and Mysore. If you want can hire a cab or rented car.
The gardens are built across river Cauvery and below Krishna Raja Sagar(KRS) Dam which is in itself a magnificent example of engineering and a major tourist attraction. The dam was built by Sir M Vishweshwariah in 1924 whereas the Brindavan Gardens were built by Sir Mirza Ismail.
Spread across 60 acres, the beautifully landscaped Brindavan Gardens were completed in 1932. The gardens are divided into four main areas – the Main Gate, North Brindavan, South Brindavan, and the Children’s Garden. A must sightseeing place of a Mysore tour, Brindavan Garden mesmerizes everyone by Lighting and Dancing Fountain. Today, the Brindavan Gardens is world famous for its ethereal beauty, grandeur, illumination and musical fountain.
The garden has a botanical park, Fruit orchard, and horticulture farms. Boat rides in the lake can also be enjoyed here.
The Musical and dancing fountain is the main attraction of the visitors. The water, colored light, and music are harmonized in the fountain to create a water ballet controlled by an aquatic organ operated through a controller.
Water is pumped to the fountain and the operation is computerized. All the other fountains run due to the water pressure from the dam. A laser vision has also been developed for visitors’ attraction The illumination timing is the same as that for the garden. The musical and dancing fountain is located in the North Brindavan Garden. A gallery and rain shelter are provided for the viewers. The show is made more dramatic with laser lights.
Brindavan Gardens, Mysore, open all the days from 6.30ap to 9pm. Entry Fee Rs. 15 per person for Adults, Rs. 5 per person for children (Age:5-10 Yrs) and for foreigners Rs. 100 only.
Music Fountain Timings at Brindavan Gardens on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday is from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM and on Saturday & Sunday is from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Best time to visit-
After sunset as one can view the fountain show and enjoy a pleasant evening.
