Did he have the gun legally? Aiming a vehicle at anyone would be excessive force.

He tried to run over the police and had a gun in car. Why the hell would St. Paul pay any money.

Yup, he pointed his car at a police officer and sped up, while having a loaded unlicensed handgun in the vehicle. Officers stopped the threat and he subsequently lost his life due to his poor decisions and actions. His family receives $1.3 Million, and he gets a memorialized bronze plaque on a bench in a City Park facing the lake, in the remembrance of his heroic efforts in attempting to evade the police.

I was born 2 months premature at 3 lbs 6 oz in the early 1970's and was immediately diagnosed with Congenital Heart Disease. To date I have survived 8 open heart surgeries, two closed heart, numerous pacemaker insertion and removal surgeries and now I am pacemaker dependent and have an artifical heart valve. I could have gone on disability at 18 years old, yet I thought that is the chicken way out, ... so I decided to work as long as I could. Despite being told no by every military branch recruiter and registering as 4-F (Ineligible to Serve due to Medical Conditions) with the selective service, I served my country for 4 years in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. I worked for free, bought my own uniforms and even my own medals and qualification ribbons that I earned. Yet I am not categorized as a veteran, because I was an unpaid volunteer. It was not about a paycheck, it was about serving my community and helping others in the protection of our lakes, waterways and coast line. I worked in armed security, law enforcement, broadcast radio for 10 years, and finished my career as a federal security quality assurance manager and trainer of new officers. My heart conditions overwhelmed my ability to work any more.

Now I'm on disability, living at 49% below the poverty line and been on housing waiting lists for the last 11 years. When I die, (which is what they really want) after serving my community, State and Country, I will be given a State funeral and afforded a $40.00 Urn that no one will want, because all of my family is gone.

Something seems backwards about this situation. As I reflect on the atrocity that this young man created, I am saddened that he lost his life. Yet, I am more saddened by how many like myself are overlooked, yet the want-to-be young thug gangster is elevated to near Legend Status, for trying to escape law enforcement apprehension, and making a fatal mistake in endangering the lives of others.... I am disgusted with this decision, while having good reason.

Her son was not a good son. He aimed a gun at police. This is such B.S. Maybe we should start suing the families of all the people doing the carjackings.

Why? Police are charged for protecting their lives and our community? You are fueling and funding criminal behaviors with unjustified payouts.

Theses police agency's are not the elite and perfect and never where .. they want to be seen as there great and can do no wrong yet they have to put millions to the side as they know lawsuits are coming I'm glad to see community are uniting against police brutality its about time. The cops have now come to realise that the public have had enough
