FreeNAS 8.2 Step by Step setup in about 15min!

In reference to the last bit of info on the error when attempting to change permissions, it actually requires disabling of AFP/CIFS services, then reboot, then the fields will be editable. As of 8.3.0 the bug still exists.

As I watch the video you created two user.

You accessed 1 user say pox folder create a text document.

Is there a way for the other person to create documents and save them to that instead of having because I found out that when I did it.

You copied one text documents in one folder and then it appeared in the other share shared folder to the other person..
I want to separate folders on the account

It doesn't matter, as you will be formatting them again in FreeNAS as ZFS.

Think its possible to make a fairly good one under $500? Buying everything tho? Ie Tower, Mobo

I read that you need 1gig of ram per 1TB storage, is this true? I'm planning on having at least 12TB (3TB HDDsx4, possibly 1 or 2 more) in my homemade NAS but I don't need a RAID or anything, just the individual drives will do fine. So surely if I am only using one drive at a time 4GB of ram will be enough?

I haven't seen a definitive answer to the following question anywhere. Can you use a HD with data already on it in a freenas system? I have an old HD that was part of a win7 system w/ all my music on it. Importing the volume in freenas isn't working.

So this is what my set-up involves.

FreeNas 8.2
2x 1Tb Hdd's
2Gb Ram
bla bla bla... LOL

I have set up a mirror with UFS, Should i have gone with ZFS rather?
I will be using it on a windows environment...

Also if one disk fails how would i go about rebuilding the mirror?

Or wait... You might know a easier way of doing this?
Maybe 3 disks and a ZFS Volume with RAID Z Rather??

Hi,
Good job with the tutorial. But when I try to access the share I do not have permission to it. If I want to change the permissions for lets say everyone and full control I get an error message 'Access denied'. What can I do about it? Thanks in advance.
