You are kidding me? You really need 32Go of RAM to edit photos in Lightroom or to open a couple of tabs in Chrome? I have always been using 16Go of RAM and never ran into any issues. I'm a developer and work on heavy projects, 16Go is also sufficient. About apps emulation, I don't see any issues about that. M1 is way faster than any current Intel chips found in Apple laptops, even emulated apps will run smoothly and maybe faster than on Intel chips. When apps will be ported, we will get huge performance increase. I just see benefit, no limitation. Maybe you should re-evaluate how you use your computer.

Most use the laptop for office usage, media and surfing. 8GB or 16GB of RAM is enough for years to come for most users.

Who needs a ton of RAM when the OS can write to and read from swapfiles at up to 2.8GB/s?

The apps aren't being emulated they are translated on install.

Genuine question... why are you going to run into issues with a couple of tabs open in google chrome with 8 or 16gb ram? What sites are you looking at?!

I'm debating on getting the 16" mac book pro when it comes out or the imac. I'm curious but hoping the imac still will have user upgradable ram to make the machine more accessible on a lower budget if you don't wanna pay apple to install the chips. Really hope they release this next spring or soon so I can upgrade. Making videos on a 2011 mbp was functional for a while but its slowing massively and seems like its on its way out soon! I push it really hard a lot though... haha

Hi I just bought the iPad pro 2020 i haven't even opened it yet because I don't know whether to send it back and wait for the new one. what do you think? Because the new ones are supposed to be a lot more powerful and supposed to come with 8 gig of RAM. I use it for making music.

This is why I’m waiting for people to get their M1 chip macs and hear the reviews before I make a buying decision because at this point everyone is just speculating the performance and the issues that will come with it. I’m able to wait until the reviews start popping up. It’s not a necessity for me to buy one now but if it was and I had any problems I could always return it. Not a big deal or even sell it to someone.

The saw the emulator only uses the 4 high performance cores (they don't even try to use the 4 low power cores), so I think the high battery life stats may only apply when exclusively using native arm apps.
