This is an updated version of my first video on how to determine if your glass is tempered or not. In this video in addition to showing how to identify non tempered glass I also show you some tempered glass.

Thank you VERY VERY VERY MUCH for this info. I am tempted to drill my 80 gallon tank. Now I know how to make sure I don't screw up! Great video my friend. Thanks again!

Thanks... I always struggled with how to figure it out until I read somewhere to try this and it makes total sense. I always remember wearing my polarized sunglasses and seeing spots in the side glass and I thought to myself that you never see a car with the a cracked glass on the sides because they are tempered but the windshield crack all the time and you never see spots looking forward when wearing the sunglasses.

Thanks much for this video - especially appreciated the follow up to show what tempered will look like
Note - just about all Rx sunglasses or just the sun glass attachment for RX glasses are polarized.  Was able to use a pair from 15 years ago for this trick.  Knew they would come in handy for something down the line.

Not to be the guy to ask a stupid question but how do I know if my sun glasses are polerized?

Great vid! Very good info. I've many times not drilled because of uncertainty. So, "go get yourself some cheap sunglasses", and don't try to drill your car window! ;-)

Ummm...I think we are confusing "tempered glass" with "laminated glass" here. I just tested this procedure with different type of tempered glass around my house, none of them exhibited this behaviour. All clearly say tempered glass on them, for example some of our windows, the bathroom scale, sliding door etc. Then I tried it on my two cars. The side windows of those (Mini Cooper) exhibited this behaviour. However, that is laminated glass, meaning has a sandwich of plastic in between two panes of glass. Anyone who has seen a car window shatter may have noticed that some of the glass pieces just hang off the glass...still clung to the laminated plastic.

Can someone confirm that this happens to only tempered glass, and not a car window, as shown in this video, which is laminated (probably in addition to being tempered) ??

great video showing tempered vs non-tempered glass with polarized sunnies and a laptop, just way too long! 3 min top! We are surfing vids and want to hit the info fast. Tempered glass shown at 6 min.
