What in the World is Ministering?? | 3 Mormons

In the April 2018 General Conference, President Nelson announced the change of 'Home Teaching' to 'Ministering.' Since the change, has ministering worked or should we turn back to home teaching?

Home Teaching has been a long-time program in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as the Mormon church) as a way to help each family in each ward feel included, helped, and spiritually uplifted. Members of the Church were assigned families in the ward to "home teach," encouraging each member to visit the assigned family at least once per month. Their efforts were then reported to leaders. While home teaching was not a requirement, it was heavily emphasized and members would go to great lengths just to make sure they made it to their assigned family that month.

President Nelson of the LDS Church made the historic announcement during the General Conference of April 2018 to start a new way of home teaching called "ministering." Ministering eliminates the need for reporting and teaching specific lessons but rather being a friend to those whom you are assigned rather than a teacher.

It's keeping in simplicity the connectedness of a people from Kirkland to the Salt Lake Valley and on to the world.

Ministering is more than being a friend my friend Who is not a member of our faith can hang out with me and have fun with me. However a friend cannot receive revelation unless he is a member of the church has the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Importance of ministering is to bring the power of the spirit into peoples lives and to strengthen them to live their covenants.

I loved and still love home teaching. I love doing it and I love having my home teacher come visit. Shes who i call when i need to talk... I'm a convert and that was one of my first indications that this could be a church led by God... what you've described your experience with home teaching in the past is nothing like mine. it's always truly been about friendship and connection... I love my ward.

A mormon news organization put out a article that said "Where's my home teachers gone." It was basically about older and elderly members of the church that no longer had anyone coming over to see them anymore. Which when you think about it is quite sad. Many of these people have kids on the other side of the nation or too far away to visit frequently or have work and family obligations. So the only thing they had to look foward to was their home and visiting teachers coming over. With ministering a lot of members don't come over anymore. So I think that it's important to considerate that even though the requirement isn't there anymore. That especially for the elderly, ministers should come over and visit from time to time.

This last sunday I made my first ministration visit because now the youth participates too and it was simply the best, the empathy I had for individuals has increased sooo much! Love being a disciple of Christ and being in His church❤️

I agree ministering is more organic. We had a ministering meeting by accident... our ministering couple and my husband and I had a picnic at the chapel while waiting for the bus to go see the prophet speak in Hamilton, neither couple planned it we both just brought lunch and ate and shared together. It was the best. Another time we went to see Infinity War and then went out for dessert. Best teaching EVER!!! ❤

Through ministering, I gained a friend that has blessed both my life, and I've been able to bless her. Also, I think it's called your "ministry".

How about this one Mimi: Smith: My home teachers are so good they come on the first day of every month.
Brother Jones: Oh yeah? My home teachers are so good, they come the day before that.

First off, beard? Second, I was at the session where President Nelson made the announcement for ministering. It was awesome. Although a lot of people were confused, it was a change that was needed.

As a new Latter Day Saint I have a lot of questions, but I enjoy the doctrine and my vision is clear now, thank God.
But why does the D&C 42:18 say there is no forgiveness for a murderer but 3Nephi 30:2 says there is forgiveness by remission of sins? I wanna answer my friend, i need to take more classes on LDS literature, anyone know where? I live in Los Angeles.

Ministering has not necessarily been good everywhere. In my small branch the leadership all minister to each other and manipulate people by engineering friendships through the ministering assignments, then if anyone complains they are in trouble.
