The Mustang that I'm testing today doesn't have a V8 engine under the hood. In fact, it doesn't have an engine at all and it isn't a muscle car. This is the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E and this is Ford's answer to the Tesla Model Y. I had the chance to spend 4 days with the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E and see how it stacks up against Model Y and I have to say I'm very impressed. There is a Ford Mustang Mach-E GT on the way that will compete with the Tesla Model Y Performance. That said, let's take a look at how the Ford Mustang Mach-E stacks up against the Tesla Model Y.

Our next car will be my wife’s and we’re very interested in the Mach-E. We test drove the Model Y and liked it, but the tiny rear window was a dealbreaker for her. Yes, the Y has cameras galore to help with that, but for her, there’s no substitute for being able to look over the shoulder. From the pics & videos I’ve seen, it looks like the Mach-E has better rear visibility.

And though I agree this isn’t a real Mustang and would’ve preferred just the Mach-E, potential buyers like my wife aren’t offended & instead think it would be cool to own a practical Mustang...which suggests Ford’s marketing folks know what they’re doing.

It may seem scary to not be able to recharge as quickly as filling up, but a lot of people's fears are unfounded. With a level 2 charger at home, most EVs can charge anywhere between 22 to 30 miles per hour. So from midnight until 6am (this is super off peak time for the cheapest charging rates, about 9 cents per kwh where I live), that's 132 miles to 180 miles charged in 6 hours, at home. Unless you're commuting 130 miles or more every day (that's about 3.5 hours of driving), there's really nothing to fear about owning an EV. You can always charge it more than 6 hours if you need to, it's not like you're stuck to just charging 6 hours a night. The only thing that changes is that you have to spend an extra 5 seconds every time you get home to plug in and charge. I would argue that this is much less time than driving to a gas station, that could be a bit out of the way sometimes, and spend 5 minutes there filling up. If you don't like EVs then that's fine, but having to charge it is no longer an excuse, unless you regularly do roadtrips. If you drive a thousand mile roadtrip twice a year then that doesn't make sense to have that be a factor in deciding on which vehicle to own. Just rent a car for long roadtrips lol.

Not sure what camera you are using to film this, but you can eliminate the flashing rear tail light and display flicker by changing the shutter speed. 1/60 or 1/125 should fix it.

How is the charging network and how soon can this one charge? I make a weekly same day 350 mile RT, I will have to depend on some fast charging stations to complete the RT. I am sure the DC-Philadelphia route should have few options because i have seen the Tesla super charges in quite a few places on I 95.

I think the software updates on tesla bring so many cool features that no other electric car has so tesla is cooler only cause of software

Omar, why would you even want to go to a station to "fill up" your EV when the entire point of the thing is that you just treat the car like your cell phone and charge it at night when you sleep? Wake up, drive 200+ miles, go home & plug in, wake up and drive 200+ miles again. What's the problem?
