Imagine how much pain and anger each of those converters represents.
20 years should be minimum!

His bond should be the price of replacing 400 converters.

Make it illegal to recycle cat converts unless you have a dealer or salvage license.

Good luck with him showing up for Court! He's probably already in Mexico 🇲🇽

Should be illegal to buy a conveter that has been cut off.

He's expected to appear in court later this week....yeah, sure he is. Court pockets 50k when he absconds, and meanwhile thousands of citizens are out 1500 to 3000 dollars each to replace converters. And all our auto insurance goes up, as those claims are submitted minus deductiables. They have got to start treating this as an assault on society, and set higher bonds.

The cops shouldn't be throwing those catalytic converters like that ! Technically they are stolen property & should be returned to their lawful owners as they are worth big money ...plus they might break up the catalyst on the inside & reduce their scrap value if later sold ....knowing the police, they will probably sell them themselves & steal the money for their own funds

Part of an organized crime group and you expect him to show up for court?!? $50K bail is such a slap on the wrist. How about no bail due to flight risk? It hasn't even been determined if he was legally or illegally here, he could be a foreign national w/ connections to make him disappear. Would like to know who put up his bail.

Is it just me? Or, does anyone else wonder why it took an officer being killed to find these people?

So, $5, 000 gets him out of jail. How much were those catalytic converters worth? Is he an American citizen, because if not, why would he show up. If he his a citizen, he's facing conviction and a jail sentence. With SO much money to be made, why would he show up for $5, 000???

My tenants got theirs stolen twice. They ended up having to sell that car and get one that wasn’t popular catalytic converter wise. The neighbors around here were getting hit hard, and most of them are the working poor and can’t afford the loss. They were even so bold as to do it in their driveways and backyards. They’d hit in the early morning hours and be gone in minutes. No one heard or saw anything. Still a big problem here….

Now find out who the buyer was supposed to be. We all want to know that. That will be headline news.

They should smash with increased penalties, including environmental fines for this crime. Also, they should meaningfully regulate sales/salvage of these

Anybody involved in this crime has visited serious operational repair and financial pain on a lot of unsuspecting drivers...They should quietly "disappear"....
